Minigolf in Las Vegas

A look at minigolf courses in Las Vegas, Nevada.

PopStroke Miniature Golf in Las Vegas (May 2024)
PopStroke miniature golf is one of the more recent additions to the minigolf options available in Las Vegas, it's also currently the only outdoor option for playing the game

It's been a few years (14 in fact!) since I last visited Las Vegas. Back in 2011 I won a minigolf tournament, at a now long-lost course, and Emily was runner-up.

I won The Putt Park Annual Mini-Golf Tournament in Las Vegas back in September 2011

Since then Emily has returned several times - most recently in May and September last year - and has been able to check out the new minigolf courses on the Las Vegas strip. And there's been plenty of change since I was last in Vegas.

Below are details of the courses we know about in Las Vegas, as well as the lost courses we've been to there on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour.

Lost minigolf courses in Las Vegas

On my two trips to Las Vegas in 2010 and 2011 I was able to play the following courses that are now sadly closed:

There also used to be a course at Ohana Mini Golf (East Bruner Avenue).

Mulligans Guildford to open next month, with bookings now live!

Mulligans Guildford has announced an opening date of Monday 14th July and exclusive 50% off discounts, with bookings now live.

Mulligans Guildford - Photo by Mulligans, 2025

Many thanks to the team at Mulligans for sending over the following information and photos giving a look at the new crazy golf venue in Guildford, Surrey.

We've been to several Mulligans courses on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour and look forward to checking out the two courses at the Mulligans Guildford venue in the future.

Adventure Leisure, the group responsible for Mulligans, BUNKERS, Total Ninja and Ninja Warrior UK, is set to open its 14th Mulligans venue, in Guildford, Surrey in time for the summer holidays.

Mulligans Guildford will install golf technology which will track each shot, across 18 exciting, themed holes. The market-leading tech will eliminate the need for score cards and generate chances for players to win a supershot points booster by trying their luck at trick shots.

The two 9-hole courses will be based on Night Life and Street Life, with themes including disco. Complete with glitter balls and a disco wall for photo opportunities, the holes will be a nod to Guildford’s iconic party past including the famous Cinderella’s nightclub, which formerly occupied the site. Other holes include casino, featuring a working roulette wheel, plus holes based on global destinations such as surfers paradise, inspired by TV’s Bondi Beach, and a mini version of the iconic Golden Gate Bridge.

Ahead of opening the doors, Mulligans Guildford are offering 50% off all bookings made before Monday 21st July, when you sign up to the mailing list via the Mulligans Guildford website.

The two-floor venue will also feature high-tech activities including electro-darts and electro-shuffleboard, as well as American pool tables and classic arcade games including air hockey, curved air hockey, skeeball and basketball.

Mulligans Guildford will also be introducing a brand-new food and drink menu featuring burgers, small plates, sharing dishes and a new cocktails list.

Mulligans Guildford is taking over the former sites of TGI Friday’s, Slice and the iconic Cinderella’s Nightclub and is being brought to life by internationally renowned designer Zachary Pulman, who also designed venues for global brands Swingers and Top Golf.

Commenting on the new venue in Guildford, Adventure Leisure’s Chief Operating Officer, Stephen Brown, said "It’s less than a month to go until we open the doors to Mulligans Guildford, and we can’t wait! We’re busy putting the finishing touches to the venue, to make sure we’re hosting the best summer possible, whether you’re meeting friends for a round of golf and a catch-up, hosting all your mates for the ultimate end of term party, or just want to pop in for a milkshake to cool down."

"We’re seeing lots of bookings being made already, and we’re really looking forward to meeting as many people from Guildford and beyond this summer."

The Adventure Leisure group currently has 13 Mulligans sites across the UK which include venues in Basildon, Birmingham, Bournemouth, Bristol, Cheltenham, Milton Keynes, Newcastle, Norwich, Sidcup, Stevenage, Tonbridge, and Worcester, with the most recent venue opening in Hemel Hempstead in 2024.

Adventure Leisure Limited is a subsidiary of Burhill Group Limited (BGL), which also operates 10 golf clubs and the BUNKERS! and Ninja Warrior UK brands.

Check out the Mulligans Guildford website for more information on the venue and to sign up to the newsletter.

Happy birthday Putt-Putt - 71 years old today

Today marks 71 years since the world's first Putt-Putt course opened.

The first Putt-Putt Golf course was set-up by Don Clayton in Fayetteville, North Carolina, USA on this day back in 1954.

Putt-Putt is the only patented game of miniature golf and began in Fayetteville, North Carolina in 1954. In the 1960's Putt-Putt franchises began opening outside of the US, in locations such as South Africa, Australia and Japan. There were also courses in the UK, the first of which opened in Sunderland in 1968. Others followed at Flamingo Land in Yorkshire and in Buxton, Derbyshire. However, information on these UK courses is limited. You can read the Putt-Putt story on the Putt-Putt Fun Centres website.

Blockbuster Golf & Games and Block Party

A look back at Blockbuster Golf & Games and Block Party venues in the USA.

Blockbuster Video at Fallowfield Retail Park Manchester (June 2020)

With the news that the first Netflix House location will be home to a mini-golf course among the activities on offer, it's interesting to note how it's predecessor Blockbuster Video had some similar concepts back in the 1990s.

Blockbuster Golf & Games

Blockbuster Golf & Games was an entertainment centre that gathered together mini golf, batting cages, a giant arcade and more in one location. It didn't go as far as Netflix House in its use of popular brands and licences from the world of TV, film and entertainment though, with the Blockbuster branding being prominent.

Blockbuster Golf & Games was located in Sunrise, Florida, USA and opened in 1994. It closed in the year 2000.

Every so often old golf balls from Blockbuster Golf & Games appear for sale, however there isn't a lot of information or photos of the actual course available online.

Block Party

Also in 1994 Blockbuster Video opened two 'Block Party' locations - one in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and another in Indianapolis, Indiana. They closed in 2002.

Block Party was an indoor entertainment centre that brought together recreational activities in a retail environment including virtual reality games, laser tag, arcade games, indoor rides, 4D experiences and more.

Dead Mall Walking did a nice deep-dive into Block Party (and includes Blockbuster Golf & Games) and you can watch it at this link and the video below.

Did you ever visit Blockbuster Golf & Games or Block Party? Do you have memories of the place and the minigolf course at Blockbuster Golf & Games?

Blockbuster Video nostalgia

Nowadays there is nostalgia for the Blockbuster brand, and while there is still one solitary Blockbuster Video store still operating - in Bend, Oregon - you are more likely to see the Blockbuster name adorning pop-ups at events. One of the more recent was a collaboration with KitKat.

Blockbuster Crazy Golf

Interestingly there are 'Blockbuster' store-themed minigolf holes in the UK! They're part of the Golf Fang indoor crazy golf courses. This was the one at The Custard Factory in Digbeth, Birmingham back in 2017.

The remains of Blockbuster Video in the UK

I've enjoyed researching the lost brand and seeking out remnants of old Blockbuster stores over the last few years.

I found the preserved remains of a Blockbuster Video store in Fallowfield, Manchester in 2019. Sadly that location was demolished in January 2024. This is what it looked like shortly before it was lost forever.

During the pandemic my interest in lost brands and retail history was piqued and since then I've been to several former Blockbuster Video stores around the UK, as well as finding some other old, and some still open, video shops on our travels!

Blockbuster Video store in Nuneaton, Warwickshire (May 2021)
Blockbuster Video store in Nuneaton, Warwickshire (May 2021)

At its peak in 2004 there were more than 9,000 Blockbuster Video stores around the world. 500+ of which were in England, Scotland and Wales. Interestingly in Northern Ireland the Xtra-Vision brand was used by the owners in-line with the Republic of Ireland. The last Blockbuster Video shop ceased trading in the UK in December 2013.
