The Competitors line-up at Shanklin's Beton Crazy Golf CourseToday Emily and I visited the Dunstable Downs in Bedfordshire, where there is an Isle of Wight Lane!
I couldn't find any history on Bedfordshire's Isle of Wight connections, so if anyone out there knows how this lane/road got its name please do get in touch?

After asking the Dunstable Gazette, Dunstable Town Council, Central Bedfordshire Council and the Dunstable Tourist Information Centre about the origins of the naming of Isle of Wight Lane on the Dunstable Downs, I was referred to Kensworth Parish Council who told me:
"The lane acquired its name from a property in the lane - the Isle of Wight Farm" http://bit.ly/fVJ20G

It still begs the question as to how the Isle of Wight Farm got its name though?
The website Pete's Walks makes a mention of Isle of Wight Lane/Farm.
