Social distancing on an escalator

I've been documenting a number of aspects of the coronavirus pandemic here and on my social media. One of my areas of interest is the variety of warnings, instructions and directional signage there is around social distancing, so I loved seeing this photo Emily took of the social distancing measures in place on an escalator in M&S!

Social distancing signage on an escalator
Kind of like chevrons on the motorway

Surely the 2 metre apart distance stickers should be on the moving walkway as well, rather than the static sides of the escalator? I wonder how many people are adhering to the rule and waiting for the person ahead of them to reach the first marker?

Check out my Instagram account and the various highlights for snaps of the social distancing, coronavirus and Covid-19 signs I've seen on my (limited) travels this year.

A-Team Cleaning Services in Manchester

Spotting an 'A-Team van' in Stockport.

I always keep an eye out for fun and interesting stuff and managed to get a snap of this 'A-Team van' out on a mission somewhere in the Greater Manchester underground earlier today!

It's not the first A-Team van I've seen on my travels. Check out the Multi Kitchens Ltd van, The Waste Team and The Natural Tile Company in Belfast.

The Goodfather in Salford

We spotted another Godfather takeaway while out for a walk in Salford yesterday.

This one was missing a letter on its sign.

But had gained two letters to become Goodfather Pizza

The side sign still says Godfather

Colne in Bloom

We recently had a nice wander around Colne in Lancashire and saw a number of planters out for Colne in Bloom.

This one in particular caught our eye!

Colne in Bloom

We liked this one at Colne railway station as it had a nice train theme.

Louis Tussauds House of Wax in Great Yarmouth

A look back at Louis Tussauds House of Wax in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.

Louis Tussauds House of Wax in Great Yarmouth

In all of my travels around the UK one of my biggest regrets is that I never visited Louis Tussauds House of Wax in Great Yarmouth.

The closest I ever got to going inside

It was the World's Worst Wax Museum!

Look at those star attractions. Bear in mind this photo was taken in June 2011

We've been to the Norfolk seaside resort a number of times over the years but either ran out of time to go in, or found it to be closed or out-of-season.

Sadly Louis Tussauds House of Wax permanently closed in 2012.

Did you ever visit? I'd love to know if it really was as bad as people say.

What a 'Steals' in Chorley

A look at a Steals store in Chorley.

We had a nice walk around Chorley town centre yesterday evening and one of the interesting shops we spotted was Steals. It's got some superb signage.

Steals in Chorley
What a shop front - that orange and black colour scheme has a really retro look to it

I hadn't heard of Steals before but looking online it's a bargain clothes shop with branches in Blackpool, Preston, Accrington, Poulton-le-Fylde and Chorley.

The Steals store in Chorley opened on the site of a former Littlewoods Clearance store last year.

A funny old sign

NO TIPPING at the Stockport Pyramid.

While having a wander around the Stockport Pyramid I noticed a funny sign near the gates - it must've been up for years as it had the old Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council logo on it.

Typo on a very old Stockport Council sign at the Pyramid
NO TIPPNG

The other NO TIPPING sign on the opposite side of the driveway was spelt correctly.

NO TIPPING

Both signs are likely to be almost 30 years old. That's a long time for a typo like that to be hidden in plain sight!

The Metropolitan Borough of Stockport was founded in 1974 and the Stockport Pyramid was completed in 1992 after five years work.

Sadly traces of the old Metropolitan Borough of Stockport logo are becoming few and far between. There was one on an old noticeboard on Adswood Road in Cheadle Hulme until it was destroyed in a road traffic accident last year!

Thanks to Natalie Ainscough for letting me know about this sign with the old logo on at Woodford Recreation Ground.

We spotted an interestingly decorated ice cream van in Cheadle on Friday.

It's always fun seeing The Simpsons in unexpected places

It's not the first time we've seen The Simpsons on an ice cream van - we saw this one in Leeds and another in Cheadle Heath.

National Miniature Golf Day

A look at a pair of National Miniature Golf Day posters.

A few years ago I spotted these two posters for National Miniature Golf Day on Twitter and Facebook.

The posters use one of my photos taken during the National Miniature Golf Day competition we played at the Pebble Beach Adventure Golf course in Skegness in May 2015.
