Mini Golf now open at Play2Day in Wisbech

There's a new Adventure Mini Golf course at Play2Day in Guyhirn, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire.

There's a new Adventure Mini Golf course at Play2Day in Guyhirn, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire

We heard about the plans for the new course back in 2021 and have seen photos of the new outdoor minigolf course on the Play2Day Facebook Page - and it's railway-themed!

It looks ace.

With an address of "The Old Station Yard" was the course going to be anything other than train-themed!

We often pass through Wisbech en route to see family and friends in East Anglia, and have driven past Play2Day before. We're looking forward to swinging by on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour in the future.

You can find out more about the Adventure Golf / Mini Golf course on the Play2Day website and Facebook Page.

Checking out the info on the Play2Day centre they've also got a Lazer Tag! Another of my favourite sports.

Minigolf at the Devon Railway Centre and Model World in Bickleigh

Finding a mini miniature golf course in Bickleigh, Tiverton.

My brother and his family were recently down in Devon and swung by the Devon Railway Centre on one of the days of their trip. Sadly the venue wasn't open at that time, but they did return later in the week when it was as there's a crazy golf course there too.

Unfortunately the course was so busy while they were there they didn't get to have a game, but they did find this superb and very mini crazy golf in the model world part of the centre!

The Crazy Golf course at the Devon Railway Centre counts as a visit - even though it wasn't played - and the model course is at least half a visit too. This means the Crazy World of Minigolf Tour list of courses visited since September 2006 now stands at 998.5!

The 12-hole layout became the 996th visited overall by members of the Crazy World of Minigolf Tour since 2006!

We're looking forward to playing the minigolf course at Bressingham Steam & Gardens in the future. It'll be fun to have a go on the miniature and not so miniature railways there too.

Chester Zoo's monorail

A look at what remains of the monorail at Chester Zoo.

Monorail at Chester Zoo

Unfortunately we were two years too late to have a ride on the monorail at Chester Zoo when we visited yesterday.

However, as a big fan of monorails it was interesting to see sections of the track still in place

The last train

I last travelled on a train a year ago today!

A train at Stockport railway station on the 11th March 2020

The journey was a short one - from Stockport to Manchester Piccadilly and back - as I was heading into town for the Marketing Show North at the Digital City Expo at Manchester Central. That was the last event I attended before the coronavirus pandemic lockdown.

I wonder where my next train journey will take take me and when it'll be?

Colne in Bloom

We recently had a nice wander around Colne in Lancashire and saw a number of planters out for Colne in Bloom.

This one in particular caught our eye!

We liked this one at Colne railway station as it had a nice train theme.

The Tyne & Wear Metro turns 40 today

The Tyne and Wear Metro light rail system is 40 years old today.

A Tyne & Wear Metro Metrocar in Newcastle upon Tyne

The The Tyne & Wear Metro system opened on this day in 1980. The network was opened in stages between 1980 and 1984 with the trains running on a mixture of old railway routes and new track to bespoke stations.

We were in Newcastle and Gateshead for the World Transplant Games last year and while in the area went Space Invader hunting. Three of the mosaic tile pieces by the French street artist Invader can be found at Gateshead Interchange Tyne & Wear Metro station.

Social distancing at a railway station in Finland

Many thanks to my friend and minigolf rival John Mittler for sending me this social distancing sign from Tikkurila railway station in Vantaa, Helsinki metropolitan area. He noticed it while making an essential journey into Tampere.

As John put it "Please socially distance yourself from the train, for your own safety."

He knows me well.

I enjoy seeing different and funny signs around the world, I'm a train nerd and I'm also documenting as many social distancing / Covid-19 signs & posters during the time of the coronavirus pandemic.

Shibden Park Miniature Railway in Halifax

A visit to the Shibden Miniature Railway at Shibden Park in Halifax.

Shibden Park Miniature Railway in Halifax

While in Halifax on Saturday we visited Shibden Park to check out the Pitch & Putt and Crazy Golf courses there.

As a nice bonus we also found the park is home to a miniature railway.

We're looking forward to a return visit to ride the railway in the summer.

We also saw The Shibden Express while at the park. What a fine park bench.

There was a nice tree trunk bench in the park too. It'd been carved in the shape of a viaduct and tunnel, including a train.
