New Minigolf Courses in the UK

New Minigolf Courses in the UK: Mid-Year 2025 Update.

Your ultimate tracker for new crazy golf and adventure golf course openings across the British Isles.

Last Updated: Tuesday 1st July 2025.

Information about new adventure golf, crazy golf and miniature golf courses in the UK

Minigolf is an incredibly popular leisure and sporting activity for all ages, and we're seeing an exciting boom in new courses opening up across the UK. From vibrant indoor venues in towns and city centres to sprawling outdoor adventure golf parks, the game continues to evolve and captivate players all year round.

While minigolf was traditionally a seaside summer pastime in the UK, the last decade or so has seen its growth into more urban settings, with many venues now catering to a late night audience. It can be the perfect activity for groups of friends, families, and young and old alike.

The UK minigolf landscape: How many courses are there?

We regularly post about minigolf courses we hear about using the 'New courses' tag and at the start of this year there were approximately 1,370 minigolf courses around the UK (and the British Isles including Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man, and other islands).

How many minigolf courses are there in the UK today?

As of July 2025, our ongoing research indicates there are approximately 1,436 minigolf courses around the UK (and the British Isles including Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man, and other islands). This figure includes public courses, as well as those at pay-to-enter attractions, holiday parks, hotels, and other 'non-standard' locations. Some of these courses are also under construction / in development. Over time some locations have also been partially or fully refurbished, while others have completely swapped out an old course for a new one in the same spot. Since our last update we've also discovered and unearthed several courses we didn't previously know about that have opened in the last year or so!

When our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour began in 2006, there were around 600 courses in the British Isles. And only two of those were indoor venues (both on the East Anglian coast). Today, the year round, indoor game is booming, with courses found in shopping centres, on retail parks, at golf clubs, leisure centres, and town and city centres nationwide. The outdoor game remains popular and when courses are well designed, well built and well maintained they can put up with the British weather during what was traditionally the 'off season' months (i.e. not the Summer!).

A bright and colourful hole on the King Pins Mini Golf course at the Arndale Centre in Manchester, England. It's one of the 'new breed' of indoor courses at competitive socialising venues

The game has truly become one enjoyed as much by groups of adults as it is by families, marking a significant addition - and a complete shift seen in the growing number of licenced over-18's venues - from its traditional role in days out and holidays.

The Crazy World of Minigolf Tour: Our journey continues.

Our passion for minigolf drives our extensive travels. Emily and I have now explored a remarkable total of 1,083 miniature golf courses on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour since 2006, with 1,022 of them right here in the British Isles.

As well as playing minigolf in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Jersey and the Isle of Man we’ve travelled to minigolf courses in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Chile, Finland, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Poland, Singapore, Spain (including Lanzarote and Majorca), Sweden and the USA.

When combined with my brother Christopher's branch of the tour, we've been to a total of 1,133 courses. With Christopher and his family having visited courses around the British Isles as well as going to courses in Türkiye, Spain (Majorca), Italy, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, France, Indonesia, Croatia and the USA.

Our commitment to documenting the minigolf world has been recognised by the Guinness World Records, where I hold the record for "Most miniature golf courses visited" (902 at the time of publication). You can find even more minigolf records in the Guinness World Records 2024 book and on the Guinness World Records website!

Playing the Breakers Realistic Miniature Golf course at Les Mielles in Jersey - it was a HUGE minigolf layout! There have been some changes and additions to the venue and the Channel Islands is somewhere we'd love to return to one day

Of the original list of 600 courses from our tour's inception back in 2006, we still have 39 of the public courses to visit. Additionally, there are a further 150 courses at pay-to-enter attractions, hotels, and holiday parks from the list that we haven't yet explored.

Beyond these, hundreds more courses have opened over the past 19 years. This has made our quest to visit them all never-ending. Just getting to some of the 39 more far-flung 'originals' could prove to be a mammoth effort to reach as there are so many new places to discover en route!

We need to make a return visit to Northern Ireland as we haven't been since 2010 - and lots more courses have opened over there in the last 15 years!

Minigolf course openings 2020 - 2025.

We tracked 320 courses that opened between May 2020 and July 2023. Between August 2023 and September 2024 a further 150 courses opened, or were in development. Between September 2024 and December 2024 another 27 new courses were announced, in the process of being built or opened. And between December 2024 and June 2025 we've found out about another 59 courses, showing the incredible pace of growth in the game, sector and industry.

A few things to note about UK minigolf course data.

Please remember that tracking minigolf courses in the UK is not an exact science. Courses are constantly opening, being planned, or sometimes 'lost' (closed, abandoned or removed). Others undergo refurbishment, and some are completely renovated to the point where they could be considered entirely new layouts! Our goal is to provide the most comprehensive and up-to-date information possible.

The name of the game.

There are a number of different names for the game of minigolf. While there are some design standards for courses, most would be regarded as 'fantasy' courses where the end result is limited only by imagination, building regulations and budgets.

There are a number of different names for the game of minigolf and on our crazy golfing adventures we've found over 100 synonyms for it!

What do you call 'minigolf'? Do let us know in the comments.

Minigolf courses in the British Isles.

On our travels to date we've been to minigolf courses in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Jersey, and the Isle of Man. We've also tracked courses in the other Channel Islands such as Guernsey. There are also lots of courses to visit on the multitude of islands such as the Isle of Wight (where you will find plenty of places to play), islands in Scotland, and places such as Anglesey.

We haven't yet had time to reach the Republic of Ireland and it's a place we'd love to tour as there's a thriving mix of new inland courses there, along with older places to play the game. At this time our minigolf tracker and the overall number of courses in this post doesn't cover the Republic of Ireland, although we do follow several of the courses there and our 'to visit' list for that part of the British Isles continues to grow!

Planning to visit a minigolf course - check ahead of time.

Where possible please do check that the course is still there and open before travelling to it. The online presence of courses is improving, and the way businesses market themselves is always evolving, so it's becoming somewhat easier to find the opening and closing times of courses. That said, we've spent the last two decades attempting to play as many courses as possible, and even we've ended up finding courses to be derelict, abandoned or unplayable when we've arrived!

Pop-up minigolf - a growing area of the game.

We are finding that there are also quite a few other minigolf, crazy golf and adventure golf courses that are short-term 'pop-ups'. Some of these have been used as proof of concept businesses and developed into permanent courses, while others are created for seasonal activities, one-off events, promotions, or set periods of time. It goes to show that minigolf is a versatile activity and can be used in so many different, fun and interesting ways.

Hiring a minigolf course - minigolf rental.

Many of the pop-up minigolf courses are provided by one of a number of minigolf course rental businesses that specialise in bringing a course to a wide range of events, including parties, birthdays, weddings, business networking, staff rewards, schools and colleges, and more!

We visited Glasgow back in May 2009 and one of the courses we found there was this abandoned 18-hole outdoor Crazy Golf course in Victoria Park.

Even 16 years on it's still one of the strangest courses we've seen on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour.

The course was in a distinctive amphitheatre layout and is laid out in a fair bit of space.

Looking for further information about the course doesn't reveal too much more information. It was built in the 1970's but has been derelict since the 1980's!

New minigolf courses in the UK

Information about new minigolf courses being built, in development and planned to open in the UK.

Information about new minigolf golf courses in the UK

Minigolf is an incredibly popular activity for all ages and there are new mini-golf, crazy golf and adventure courses opening up all the time in a wide-range of outdoor and indoor locations.

Whereas the game in the UK was more traditionally a seaside pastime, over the last decade it has grown to be a game enjoyed by people in more urban settings - with many minigolf venues catering to a late night audience.

How many minigolf courses are there in the UK?

As at January 2025 there are approximately 1,370 minigolf courses around the UK and British Isles (including Jersey, Guernsey, Isle of Man, and other islands). This includes public courses, as well as those at pay to enter attractions, holiday parks, hotels and other 'non-standard' locations.

Developments over the last two decades

When our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour travels began in 2006 there were around 600 courses in the British Isles. Only two of those original courses were indoor venues. Both of these were on the East Anglian coast (in Felixstowe and Great Yarmouth), and both locations still have minigolf courses. The indoor course at Manning's Amusements in Felixstowe has recently been removed and is being replaced by a brand new layout that is set to open in the same location at Easter this year.

As the year-round, indoor game is booming and you can find minigolf courses indoors at shopping centres, retail parks, and in town and city centres around the country.

The game was traditionally played on days out, short breaks and holidays, either at the seaside or on holiday camps. While the game has always been enjoyed by people old enough to pick up a putter, it has become a game played as much by groups of adults as it is by families.

The Crazy World of Minigolf Tour

We've now been to a total of 1,075 miniature golf courses on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour, with 1,017 of them in the British Isles. Our travels have been recognised by the Guinness World Records, and I'm a record holder for "Most miniature golf courses visited" (902 at the time of going to press). Check out the Guinness World Records 2024 book to see a lot more minigolf records too!

Of the original list of 600 we've still got to visit 39 of the public courses. In addition there are a further 150 courses at pay to enter attractions, hotels and holiday parks that we've not yet been to.

On top of these 189 courses from the original list there are hundreds more courses that have opened over the last 18 years! We tracked 320 courses that opened between May 2020 and July 2023. Between August 2023 and September 2024 a further 150 courses opened, or were in development. And between September 2024 and December 2024 another 27 new courses have been announced.

More new courses to come

There are 100+ new courses being created each year - some are on old sites/locations, some are completely new venues, while others are in planning/development, or under construction.

There are also quite a few other minigolf, crazy golf and adventure golf courses that are short-term 'pop-ups', some of which have been used as proof of concept businesses and developed into permanent courses.

A few things to note

Please note that minigolf in the UK is not an exact science and courses are opening, in planning/development, and being 'lost' quite often. Others are being refurbished, and some are completely renovated to the point where they could be considered entirely new courses.
