Hotel Putting Greens in Sidmouth

The 608th and 609th courses visited on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour were a pair of Putting Greens on hotel front lawns in Sidmouth, Devon. They're next door to each other!

The 9th course visited on our tour of the South West of England was the grass Putting Green at The Victoria Hotel.

The pair of hotel miniature golf courses looked in fantastic condition and had great views of the sea.

Both hotels are part of the Brend Group. Towards the end of our road-trip we had a very pleasant stay in The Royal Hotel in Bideford, Devon. The hotel is right next to an interesting heritage railway. Worth a visit too.

'Driving' a Train at Falkirk High Station

Emily and I have just returned from a great holiday in Scotland where we rode the rails along the coast from Ardrossan to Ayr and then inland to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and a few nights stay in Falkirk.

Falkirk High station was the scene of one of my favourite photos from the holiday!

Further blog posts with details of the Miniature Golf courses we visited and played in Ardrossan, Largs, Millport - on the Isle of Cumbrae, Troon, Prestwick, Ayr and Falkirk will follow in the coming weeks.

Cliff Lift Funicular Railway in Southend-on-Sea

While in Southend-on-Sea on Saturday 2nd December 2011 I had a ride on the Cliff Lift Funicular Railway. The lift was built in 1912 and reopened in 2010 following its closure in 2003.

You can get some great views from the carriage and it's 50p well spent to go on the 'trip'.

A visit to the Smallest Pub on the Planet

While we were visiting the great seaside resort of Cleethorpes in Lincolnshire, we went for a wander along the seafront and promenade, and found the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway. Unfortunately the line wasn't yet open for the season, and as it was early evening it wouldn't have been running anyway.

But we had a walk along besides the track to see what else we could find on our walk towards the Pleasure Island Theme Park.

What we found was The Smallest Pub on the Planet!

It's a great little Pub with loads of drinks and snacks on offer. They had 14 different Ciders on offer on our visit (of which 'Old Rosie' was sampled *hic*), and with a Folk & Cider Festival coming up on the 28th - 30th May 2011 they'll have 41+ Ciders to try!!!

It's certainly the smallest pub on the planet, but it has plenty of character, and a well stocked 'Games Room'.

The Pub, Coast Light Railway and Cleethorpes as a whole is well worth visit.
