The Smallest Pub on the Planet at the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway

Revisiting The Signal Box Inn - the Smallest Pub on the Planet.

The Signal Box Inn - the Smallest Pub on the Planet

Last May we had a brilliant weekend away in Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire. It was our second visit to the seaside town, having previously stayed there on our Lincolnshire coast road-trip in May 2011.

We stayed in the Premier Inn over the road from the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway and as soon as we arrived we called in to The Signal Box Inn - the Smallest Pub on the Planet.

Visiting two more 'small' pubs

Over the years we've visited quite a few small pubs, each with their own particular claims.

We've had a drink at the Smallest Pub on the Planet (it's in Cleethorpes) and Britain's Smallest Pub (in Southport). While in Blackpool we called in at The Mitre, which is that town's smallest boozer.

Bar Bach - Little Bar - in Caernarfon is the smallest bar in Wales

Recently we popped into Bar Bach in Caernarfon and The Q Inn in Stalybridge.

Bar Bach is the smallest bar in Wales. We've encountered the word 'bach' on our minigolf travels too as we've played a few Golff Bach Cwrs. Bach means 'little'.

Proof

When you get inside you find out that bar is actually split and sits across two addresses!

The second address is for the cafe there.

The Q Inn is the public house with the shortest name in the United Kingdom. As certified by the Guinness Book of Records in 1995. It was a nice pub and worth a look.

The Corner Bar in Stockport Market

A visit to The Corner Bar in Stockport Market.

There's a lot of debate as to which is the smallest pub in Britain/the UK/the planet. On our travels we've been to The Signal Box Inn at the end of the Cleethorpes Light Railway in Lincolnshire (the smallest pub on the planet) and more recently to the Lakeside Inn at Southport (the smallest pub in Britain).

Well, to add to the mix there's a very very very tiny pub in Stockport's Market Hall - The Corner Bar.

Emily and a visiting Simon Hall at a very small bar indeed. It was well stocked with draught and bottled beer and cider

We certainly deserved a drink after our tour of one of the more horrifying stops on the Stockport Town Centre Heritage Trail. Luckily there is plenty of outdoor seating at Stockport Market

A Miniature Golf course at the Smallest Pub on the Planet

New Minigolf course installed at The Signal Box Inn, Cleethorpes.

In May 2011 Emily and I went on a tour of the Lincolnshire coast and the first stop off was in Cleethorpes. While we were there we managed to play two courses - a Crazy Golf and an indoor Adventure Golf. We also found a great pub called The Signal Box Inn, which just happened to be the smallest pub on the planet!

While there we sampled some of the cider and had a great chat with the landlord Alan Cowood. Telling him about our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour and our love of pub games he showed us the 'Games Room' at the pub. Following our visit I sent Alan a 9-hole Miniature Golf course to add to the pub's entertainment options and I've now received photos of the course's installation.

Due to the Minigolf course's portable nature it is able to be moved around the venue and with nine tricky Crazy Golf holes to master will be sure to entertain patrons of the pub.

If you visit The Signal Box Inn and have a game of Miniature Golf do let me know your scores by leaving a comment on this blog post.

The Signal Box Inn is located at Lakeside Station on the Cleethorpes Light Railway and is open 11am to 11pm Tuesday to Sunday.

A visit to the Smallest Pub on the Planet

While we were visiting the great seaside resort of Cleethorpes in Lincolnshire, we went for a wander along the seafront and promenade, and found the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway. Unfortunately the line wasn't yet open for the season, and as it was early evening it wouldn't have been running anyway.

But we had a walk along besides the track to see what else we could find on our walk towards the Pleasure Island Theme Park.

What we found was The Smallest Pub on the Planet!

It's a great little Pub with loads of drinks and snacks on offer. They had 14 different Ciders on offer on our visit (of which 'Old Rosie' was sampled *hic*), and with a Folk & Cider Festival coming up on the 28th - 30th May 2011 they'll have 41+ Ciders to try!!!

It's certainly the smallest pub on the planet, but it has plenty of character, and a well stocked 'Games Room'.

The Pub, Coast Light Railway and Cleethorpes as a whole is well worth visit.
