Minigolf scoring and loyalty apps

A look at minigolf, crazy golf and adventure golf scorecard and loyalty apps.

Minigolf scoring and loyalty apps

On our travels to 956 miniature golf courses we've seen a number of venues that have introduced a mobile app to compliment or replace the traditional paper scorecard. Some of these apps are really good and help to enhance the experience.

The minigolf apps we've found offer a range of scoring functions, loyalty and reward schemes, games, reviews, contests, information and tips.

Relatively new minigolf venues including Puttshack and Puttstars use electronic scoring systems with micro-chipped balls, or electronic score-pads and screens at the course.

There are a number of minigolf, crazy golf and adventure golf apps available on Android and iPhone (all apps are for UK courses unless otherwise stated):

Do you know of any other minigolf apps, games or scoring systems? What do you think of them? Do you use them when you visit a course? Do you have a favourite? Let me know in the comments below.

New Hastings Minigolf Caddie Club to raise funds for local charity

Hastings Adventure Golf launches loyalty club and teams-up with charity partner.

Hastings Adventure Golf is using the launch of its new loyalty club, the Caddie Club, to raise funds for local charity – The Winkle Club.

With the help of a little brown bear, Caddie Bear, who arrived in Hastings last week, a fun photo caption competition is running online with every entry increasing the cash donation to the Winkle Club charity.

The competition, running weekly on Facebook, will see Caddie Bear in some precarious and fun situations. The public can suggest a photo caption with each suggestion raising more cash for the charity. The winning caption each week will also scoop free golf passes. Visit the Hastings Adventure Golf Facebook Page for more info.

Stuart Homewood of the Winkle Club charity said “Big thanks to Hastings Adventure Golf for giving us the opportunity. We are hoping to raise some much-needed cash for several local good causes.”

Simon Tompkins of Hastings Adventure Golf, said “We wanted to help the Winkle Club charity and its work with many local charities so what better way than getting our mischievous Caddie Bear to help. He’s a friendly fellow so we are asking the public to throw us their best and funniest captions and every captions results in a donation to the charity.”

The Winkle Club is an internationally famous charitable organisation formed by Hastings fishermen to help the less fortunate families of Hastings Old Town. Among the events and activities they organise is an annual Putting Competition held at the Hastings Adventure Golf complex.

The Caddie Club loyalty scheme is open to everyone who downloads the free app and registers. Details of the app can be found on the Hastings Adventure Golf website.

As well as our Crazy Golf adventures the Dull Men's Club 2017 Calendar also features a pencil enthusiast, cutlery sculptor, tombstone traveller, prefabricated buildings fan, lost glove spotter, a bubbleologist, giant pumpkin growers, a barbed wire enthusiast, a brown sign follower, village pump spotter, a vintage radio collector, and a couple who built a life-size railway station in their back garden.

Throughout the calendar you'll find obscure, odd and some might say 'slightly interesting' events and awareness days listed for your attention.

Winning at Subpar Miniature Golf

A great online minigolf contest.

I do enjoy a good minigolf contest and courses often hold online 'guess the number of ball' competitions. A recent promotion from Subpar Miniature Golf in Alameda, California was definitely one of the best I've ever seen and had a fun and novel twist.

To win you had to incorrectly guess the number of golf balls in the photo!

Incorrectly guess the number of golf balls used to create this Valentine and you may win! Photo by Subpar Miniature Golf
How many golf balls do you see?

Using my many years of minigolf experience I guessed at 732 and won!

The prize is a Subpar Miniature Golf bumper sticker - it'll be a fine addition to my collection and the Crazy Golf Museum archives - and by posting a photo of it stuck on my car I'll also receive a free round at the course. Now, to book my flights so I can collect the sticker...

Let's hope it's not my last minigolf win of the year!

You can find the Subpar Miniature Golf course at 1511 Park Stree, Alameda, California. Visit the Subpar Miniature Golf website for more info, opening times and prices.

It sounds like a great place as it's also got pool, a slot car track, an arcade and air hockey. On Fridays and Saturdays the Miniature Golf course becomes a Glow Golf layout too!

Our friends over at A Couple of Putts played the course last year, check out their review. It certainly looks like they had fun there.

Minigolf Spot-the-Ball competition

Picking up a prize in a Splash Point Mini Golf course online competition.

Emily recently used her years of minigolf knowledge and experience to claim first-place in the Splash Point Mini Golf 'Spot-the-Ball' contest!

Emily won a decommissioned flag from Splash Point Mini Golf. The course has now introduced new red flags

Photo of the Splash Point Mini Golf course in Worthing
Emily had to guess where the ball - played by Portugal's Nuno Cunha (the reigning British Masters champion) - was. You can see the answer here

Splash Point Mini Golf is an 18-hole course in Worthing's Denton Gardens. The game has been played on the site since the 1920's, with the Splash Point Mini Golf course a new addition to the town's attractions in 2010.

The course was the 181st played on our tour and we've revisited a number of times since. It's well worth a visit.

Splash Point Mini Golf has hosted a number of tournaments since opening and the layout is a real test of minigolf skill. Check out the great video from the 2012 British Masters filmed by the team at 2dogimaging.

Visit the Splash Point Mini Golf website for more details. The @Worthing_Golf Twitter feed is also worth following as there are frequent reports on local weather conditions, just in case you turn-up in Sunny Worthing to find the course closed owing to inclement weather.

A #GetUpandGo experience at the Travelodge in Hastings

Travelling to Hastings for a minigolfing #GetUpandGo experience.

Greetings from Hastings - minigolf kit laid out and ready for a weekend of Crazy Golf action in Hastings
Greetings from Hastings - minigolf kit laid out and ready for a weekend of Crazy Golf action in Hastings

On our travels around the UK on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour Emily and I often stay in Travelodge hotels, and on our many trips to compete in Mini, Crazy and Adventure Golf tournaments in the mecca of minigolf - Hastings, East Sussex - we'll often be found checking in at the Travelodge on Bohemia Road.

The hotel is in a good spot, has nice clean rooms, parking and great customer service. It all helps to make a stay there pleasant and with the introduction of new and very comfortable beds we're ready to #GetUpandGo in the many individual and team tournaments we play in at the seaside resort.

On my latest trip to the town I finished 11th of 26 players in the two-round, 36-hole Planet Hastings Crazy Golf Club Open competition played on the 18-hole Adventure Golf course on the seafront.

Love Worthing Photo Competition #useitorloseit

While in sunny Worthing for the recent BMGA British Masters miniature golf tournament at Splash Point Mini Golf course I spotted an advert for a Worthing Photo Competition in the Worthing Herald.

The competition is being run by Worthing Borough Council for its #useitorloseit campaign to make Worthing even more attractive for local residents and visitors to the town.

Here's our entry.

Winning some Pirates Adventure Golf 'Treasure'

Winning a Pirates Adventure Golf Facebook Competition!

The team at Pirates Adventure Golf in Dundonald, Belfast, Northern Ireland have recently been running a number of online competitions to win Pirates Adventure Golf Goodies and I won the competition on Tuesday 11th December :-)

My prizes from the 'Guess the Number of Golf Balls Captain Jack Frost Fired at the Fort' Contest were three pin badges and a t-shirt. Some more great Minigolf items for my collection!

Back in August 2010 Emily and I visited and played at Pirates Adventure Golf. There are two 18-hole Adventure Golf courses there - Blackbeard's Adventure and The Captain's Challenge - and they became the 188th and 189th courses we played on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour. Very good fun and testing courses they are too. While in Northern Ireland we played a Minigolf Challenge Tournament (the NIBBAL-IT) against Northern Ireland's top Minigolfers - Mark 'The Horse Whisperer' Swain and Craig 'Kamikaze' McCallister, with the Bangor Minigolf Club members winning the contest.

The courses have played host to two British Minigolf Association tournaments when Pirates Adventure Golf was the venue for the BMGA Irish Open in 2006 and 2007.

It’s not just winning that counts, it’s as much about taking part!

If you’re regular reader of this blog, follow me on Twitter, or know me out there in the real world, you’ll know that I’m very competitive. No matter what the sport, game or activity!

All this week Adidas have been running a daily #takethestage competition on their Twitter page to win tickets to the Opening Ceremony at the London 2012 Olympic Games! Each day a tweet has been posted and an advert has been in the Sun newspaper asking people to put on their official Team GB sweatbands, strike a different sporting pose and send the photo to the @adidasUK twitter account with the hashtag #takethestage.

In my endeavours to win I’ve been a Weightlifter, Boxer, Javelin Thrower and Cyclist. However I didn’t win. Congratulations to the other competitors though. I’m looking forward to watching the Opening Ceremony on the box tonight and seeing the parade of athletes as they make their way into the stadium.

It’s been a brilliant online marketing campaign and great fun in trying (in my case in vain) to find a winning sporting pose. Take a look at my efforts below and see what you think...

Striking a Weightlifting Pose - a quite Herculean feat to lift "1 Ton"

My favourite of the week - a bit of face punching for the Boxing Pose. I actually missed the deadline with this photo as well! What a Ham & Egger.

Full recovered from my pugilism I attempt to 'clean up' in the competition with a spot of Mop Javelin throwing

In what appears to be a race between a man in a 'Yellow Jersey', me and an Alsation I appear to have finished second while riding a 'bike' in Luton town centre for my Cycling Pose!

Many thanks to my long suffering wife, opponent, coach and photographer Emily for snapping away at my efforts.

I’ll be proudly wearing my Team GB sweatbands and enjoying watching the Olympic athletes in action as they take part on the biggest stage of them all. I'll be cheering them all whether they win, or just take part!

Golf Parc challenge - online golf game competition running throughout May!

Win a Golf Parc® Championship Golf Hole in online competition!

The team at Factory Eleven Golf Parc have created an online competition running throughout May 2012 and are inviting players to try their hand at the Golf Parc Challenge golf game. The winner will receive one of the Golf Parc® Championship Golf Holes!

The 9-hole miniature golf putting course layout is very testing and will likely take a good few goes to get a good under-par score. The course has a Par of 27 – in my first game I scored a 34(+7) and my follow up try resulted in a 29(+2).

Once you’ve played the game you need to submit a screenshot of your round to Factory Eleven by email or via Twitter. Full details and a link to the game can be found at – Golf Parc Challenge

Here’s to a month of minigolf mouse clicking!

My scorecard from my second go on the Golf Parc Challenge golf game - a two-over 29!

Checking out the Factory Eleven website I found that they are an events and design business that creates innovative sports equipment. The Golf Parc equipment has been designed to help with the understanding of the fundamentals of golf in a fun and interactive environment.

Winning a Putter Fingers Mug

Latest minigolf prize goes on display

As a winner of the 'Where's Spike?' online competition run by Crazy Golf business Putter Fingers I received my prize of a Putter Fingers Mug earlier this week.

The Mug has taken up a spot on my trophy shelf, well for a cup of coffee at least...
