I REMEMBER LITTLE CHEF

Do you remember Little Chef?

Many thanks to Megan Clark-Bagnall for sending me this brilliant badge from her mission to visit all of the remaining Little Chef diners in 2017 - a total of 41.

Every Little Chef badge
A very nice addition to my collection

What a quest. Find out more on Megan's Little Chef website.

While the brand was an ever present through my lifetime, I don't remember stopping at Little Chef's, or even Happy Eaters, when my family were on the road for day trips and holidays. Perhaps there weren't any on the routes from Abingdon to Barry Island or Minehead. I do however remember going to the Little Chef in Berinsfield, Oxfordshire for a meal in the late 80's or early 90's.

We also used to regularly pass by the Little Chef in Flimwell while en route to Hastings for minigolf tournaments.

The last Little Chef closed its doors in 2018. Interestingly the Little Chef website is still online.

Crazy Golf at Greens of Padstow

A look back at the old Crazy Golf course at Greens of Padstow.

Crazy Golf at Greens Cafe in Padstow

It was the 650th course visited on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour back in 2015. One of 62 we visited on that summer road-trip.

We've now been to 956 courses since September 2006.

There's a new minigolf course Greens of Padstow now. We look forward to playing it in the future.

Crazy Golf at Riverside Park in St Neots

A look at the Ambiance Cafe Crazy Golf course at Riverside Park in St Neots, Cambridgeshire.

Thanks to our friend and minigolf rival Steve Gow for letting us know about the Crazy Golf course at the Ambiance Cafe in Riverside Park, St Neots, Cambridgeshire.

The course has been there for a few years, but it was the first we'd heard about it.

It's mad how there are still so many undiscovered minigolf courses out there.

Check out the Ambiance Cafe website for more info.

Also have a look at the course's location on a satellite image for an interesting sight!

It'll be nice to visit the park as there's a miniature railway there too.

The Cereal Killer Cafe in Birmingham

While on a recent trip to Birmingham I spotted the Cereal Killer Cafe on the link between New Street Station and the Bull Ring shopping centre!

It's full of great retro items from the 80's and 90's.

And there's a Simpsons arcade cabinet at the cafe - it's a classic game and one I've been playing since 1992!

I've been trying to complete the game for 25 years and I finally achieved it at the Cereal Killer Cafe (thanks to the Free Play)

Crazy Golf at Greens Cafe in Padstow

Playing Crazy Golf in Padstow, Cornwall.

This summer we hit the BIG minigolf milestone of our 600th course visit as part of our holiday in the south west of England. During that trip we also made our 650th visit when we arrived at Greens Cafe, Crazy Golf and Grass Putting in Padstow Harbour, Cornwall.

We had great weather on our visit

Greens Cafe and Minigolf is very close to the harbour in Padstow

Greens Cafe is home to a brilliant Crazy Golf course that has 18 unique holes. We've played a lot of minigolf courses with concrete surfaces and they are not always that playable. The Green's course was not only playable, but skill-based and great fun too. We'd definitely play there again.

We had a whale of a time on the course visit

There are plenty of unique obstacles on the course

The course was the 629th visited in the UK and the 378th played overall. It was also the 51st visited and 12th played on our holiday roadtrip.

Some Egyptian-theming!

We really enjoyed our round on the course and both scored some great holes-in-one. In our match-up we tied on a score of 34.

On the home-straight

There's also a good looking Pitch & Putt course at Greens, however we didn't have time to play it this time.

The Pitch & Putt course was also called Grass Putting on some of the signs

We really liked the scorecards at the course, and a really nice touch was receiving a sticker for scoring a hole-in-one. Some great minigolf souvenirs.

What a view

There's a sprinkling of Arthurian legend on the course too

To date we've visited 670 minigolf courses on our Tour, with 21 of them overseas. This means the next course we visit will be the 650th in the UK. When we began travelling to visit all the courses in the UK there were around 600!

Gluten free at Yorkies in Skegness

While in Skegness for a weekend away at the seaside it was great to have some gluten free options for dining out. In advance of my trip I'd received tips about gluten free places on Twitter and Facebook and found that Yorkies Cafe in the town centre had a really good gluten free menu, with lots of options. It was so good I dined there twice.

Gluten free at Yorkies in Skegness
On my first visit I had a burger and chips. It was brilliant. The chips were delicious. For my second meal I had a Sunday Dinner - a real rarity. It was especially good as nothing was missing from the plate. I had lamb, roast potatoes, boiled potatoes, carrots, cauliflower, cabbage, a yorkshire pudding and gravy! A proper dinner

There are plenty of gluten free options at Yorkies. I was very impressed with the responses to my questions about the preparation and cooking of the gluten free food. It's always reassuring to have accurate and confident responses to your queries

On both visits there were other diners choosing gluten free options. That was reassuring to see and hear. Yorkies is well worth a visit
