Last summer we had a holiday on the Isle of Man and clocked up five more course visits on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour. One of which was the TT-themed Crazy Golf course at Mooragh Park in Ramsey.

The 18-hole TT Putting Crazy Golf at Mooragh Park became the 827th visited and 487th played on our travels.

Mini Golf on the Isle of Man

Details of the Crazy Golf and Minigolf courses on the Isle of Man.

We've just returned from holiday on another of the islands in the British Isles. It was a trip where we were able to add to our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour tally, clocking up another five miniature golf course visits.

Crazy Golfers and Island Explorers

First up we had a look for the TT Crazy Golf Garden course at Noble's Park in Douglas. Sadly the course is no longer there.

Noble's Park was a nice spot, but sadly there's no longer a Crazy Golf course there

Next we had a look at the Crazy Golf course and Mini Golf (Pitch & Putt) in Onchan Pleasure Park in Onchan on Saturday 28th July. The courses are open daily from 11am, but we visited in the evening so they were closed. We did get to play them on Tuesday 31st July.

We headed to Ramsey at the north of the Isle of Man on Monday 30th July where we were able to play the TT Putting Crazy Golf course at Mooragh Park. As a bonus we also got to play a Putting course next to it, one we were unaware of before our visit.

Petanque in Jersey

Earlier this year we spent a great week in Jersey having a chilled out holiday.

While there we spotted the players from the Liberation Petanque Club having some games in Weighbridge Gardens in St Helier. Having a look on the Jersey Petanque Association website there are plenty of pistes to play on. It was nice scrolling through the list of places to play as we'd visited a lot of the towns on our holiday and the names brought back some great memories.

Some petanque being played in St Helier. In the background you can see the Steam Clock, the terrain next to it has a six game capacity - we never even realised Petanque was played on that spot too

As we've got into playing the game since moving to the Stockport area it's nice to know the island is well catered for as we'd very much like to return to Jersey in the future. It's such a nice place for a relaxing break.

We're now members of the Woodstock Petanque Club, which meets at Alexandra Park in Edgeley, Stockport every other Sunday. Through the club I heard about the Jersey Petanque Club's 2017 Open competition. It sounds like fun.

We spotted another petanque terrain on one of our other island trips this year, at Puckpool Park on the Isle of Wight.

Check out the Jersey Petanque Association website for more information on playing the game on the island.

Crazy Golf in Burray, Orkney

Brand new Crazy Golf course open in the Orkney Islands.

The UK's most northerly Crazy Golf course has opened on Burray, one of the Orkney islands. The course is the brainchild of the island community and has received some great coverage since it opened last weekend.

Back in 2014 I was contacted by Dave and Pamela Woodcock from the island after they'd found my blog and it's been great to be able to give them help in getting the course built. From the photos they've sent over from the early days of building to the finished course it certainly looks unique, well constructed (one of the key factors with the 'inclement' weather conditions up there) and plays to the local heritage.

Each of the holes on the course was designed by local schoolchildren and Orkney-based architect Paul Green. There were over 100 designs submitted and the best of these made the cut to the final 12!

It looks like a nice and unique miniature golf layout

Another nice touch is that each of the pupils at the Burray Primary School are being presented with a golf putter and ball to encourage them to use the new course.

The island of Burray is home to around 400 people and the course is free to play (with a small hire charge if you need to borrow a putter and ball), with all ages welcome. There is talk of competitions and local matches amongst the islanders, as well as a challenge tournament versus the rest of the world!

The scorecard at the course looks great too, with each hole themed and named after famous island landmarks.

The course is part of a community park development in Burray village and is open year round. The newly developed area has been funded by Orkney Islands Council, Sport Scotland Legacy 2014, Awards for All and Scottish Sea Farms, as well as additional fundraising and donations from the island community.

How tricky does this hole look! We can't wait to see and play this finished version

We're looking forward to a game or two on the Burray course.

On our travels we've already played at the Easternmost courses in the British Isles (a Putting Green and Adventure Golf course in Lowestoft, Suffolk) and on the two highest courses - both on the Great Orme in Llandudno, Wales.

Crazy Golf in Millport on the Isle of Cumbrae

Visiting Millport on the Isle of Cumbrae and playing the island's Crazy Golf course.

During our holiday in Scotland we took the ferry across the Firth of Clyde to visit the Isle of Cumbrae and the island's only town - Millport.

After a short ferry crossing from Largs and quick bus ride from the ferry terminal we arrived in Millport.

A fun round (if a little frustrating) round of Crazy Golf, with some great views

In our match - the first round of play on our holiday - Emily won with a great score of 41 to my 43, hitting a brilliant shot on the last hole to take the win.

We really enjoyed our time on the island and would love to go back in the future. The weather on the day we visited the 'Costa Del Clyde' was magnificent and the views from the isle were wonderful.

Millport Crazy Golf was the 339th course we've played and 564th visited on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour. The Isle of Cumbrae was also the 10th island we've visited on our travels around the UK since 2006.

Award Bathing Beach

Award it what?

Directions to an "AWARD BATHING BEACH" in Sheerness on the Isle of Sheppey

On our recent trip to Sheerness (seaside #183 visited) on the Isle of Sheppey (island #9 we've been to) we spotted this incredibly odd bit of signage for an "Award Bathing Beach" on the seafront.

What's one of them then!?

Pitch & Putt Miniature Golf at Barton's Point Coastal Park on the Isle of Sheppey

A visit to Barton's Point Coastal Park in Sheerness on the Isle of Sheppey to look for a Crazy Golf course.

We didn't find one.

However, there was a Pitch & Putt style of Miniature Golf at Barton's Point.

We couldn't find any of the Minigolf courses on the Isle of Sheppey - at Sheerness, Half Way or Minster Beach.

There was however a Miniature Railway at Barton's Point Coastal Park!

Milestones and Brown Tourist Signs spotted in Upper Largo, Scotland

Spotting some more points of interest on our travels.

On our way from St Andrews towards Kirkcaldy during our tour of Scotland in April we drove through the villages of Upper Largo and Lower Largo and noticed a few interesting signs and milestones.

At the main junction in Upper Largo there were a pair of Brown Tourist Signs pointing just to ‘East’ and ‘West’, rather than any particular sites of interest! I believe these are for the Fife Coastal Tourist Route. They are also another set of signs spotted for the Follow The Brown Signs website.

A pair of Brown Tourist Signs in Upper Largo, Scotland

At the same junction of Main Street, Saint Andrews Road & South Feus was a milestone that showed distances to 15 places, the closest being Mounturpie at ‘no miles away’. I wonder if The Milestone Society has it logged on their database.

A Milestone in Upper Largo, Scotland

Having a 'wander' around Upper Largo on Google Street View you can see that above the Milestone there are another couple of Brown Tourist Signs, along with the other side of the milestone. One of these Brown Signs showed that 'Scotland's Secret Bunker' was 11 miles in the direction we had come from!

In Lower Largo we saw a ‘Welcome’ sign which stated that Lower Largo was twinned with Robinson Crusoe Island! A little research showed the South Pacific Ocean island to be “The most famous "deserted" island in the World” and the inspiration for the book Robinson Crusoe after the Scottish Sailor Alexander Selkirk, who hailed from Lower Largo, was stranded on the island for four years, four months! The twinning connection was made in 2004 to mark the 300th anniversary of Selkirk's marooning on the island!
