I do enjoy spotting wacky waving inflatable arm-flailing tube men advertising stuff. But I don't see them often enough for my liking. The last one we saw was a Santa airdancer in Dereham, Norfolk last November.

So it was a real treat when I spotted this fellow while walking home from Stockport town centre on Saturday afternoon!

On my travels last month I saw three wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube men. They're always fun to see and I'd gone quite a while without seeing any.

It's always fun seeing airdancer advertising

So it was a nice surprise to see one advertising Albion Mill Carpets while we were exploring Ashton-under-Lyne.

Last month I saw a wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man on The Clubhouse Stoke's Crazy Golf course in Newcastle-Under-Lyme, another advertising Mr Bubbli's Car Wash in Leicester and an airdancer advertising Stockport Powder Coating Ltd.

I've gone years without seeing any wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube men and then I've seen three so far this month!

What a sight to behold

While walking to Stockport town centre today I turned a corner and heard the trademark flapping sound of an airdancer and saw the wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man advertising Stockport Powder Coating Ltd on Brinksway Trading Estate.

Earlier this month I saw a wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man on The Clubhouse Stoke's Crazy Golf course in Newcastle-Under-Lyme and another wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man advertising Mr Bubbli's Car Wash in Leicester.

Other inflatable advertising I've seen in Stockport borough include a Father Christmas wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man in Cheadle Heath, an inflatable advertising man at United Carpets and Beds in Hazel Grove and an inflatable at Toyota in Stockport.

I wonder where I'll see one next...?

There are few finer things in life than finding a Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man on your travels

You go years without seeing a Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man and then you see two Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Men in two days!

The first Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man we found on our latest road-trip was on hole 10 of the indoor Crazy Golf course at The Clubhouse Stoke in Newcastle-Under-Lyme last Thursday night.

We spotted the second Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man at Mr Bubbli's car wash as we were driving out of Leicester city centre on Friday afternoon.

Inflatable advertising at Toyota in Stockport

One of my favourite things to see while out and about is inflatable advertising - whether it's a wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man promoting an antiques shop, to a more static inflatable directing you to an amusement arcade - they're always fun to see. So, you can imagine my reaction when I spotted this BIG inflatable piece of signage advertising a MASSIVE SALE at the Toyota car dealership on St Mary's Way in Stockport!

We were heading home from a bit of a bike ride round the borough when I saw the inflatable thing in the distance

What a sight!

It's the third piece of inflatable advertising I've seen since moving to Stockport last year. The first was a wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man Father Christmas advertising Terry's Fabrics in Cheadle Heath. The second was a 'static' inflatable promoting beds at United Carpets and Beds in Hazel Grove.

Inflatable advertising man at United Carpets and Beds

While driving out of the Borough for a weekend away in Hastings we spotted a great piece of inflatable advertising at United Carpets and Beds on Buxton Road in Hazel Grove, Stockport.

While the United Carpets and Beds inflatable is not of the wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube variety he is still attention grabbing

It's the second inflatable spotted since we moved to Stockport. Last Christmas I saw a Santa Claus wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man advertising the sale on at Terry's Fabrics in Cheadle Heath.

On our recent roadtrip we saw a couple of other interesting ways to advertise beds. Vic Smith Beds in Enfield is currently using a tank on his roadside advertising on the M25, while Sussex Beds in Bexhill is using a dinosaur outside their store to entice people in.

We've spotted a lot of inflatable advertising and wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube men on our travels over the years. Unfortunately I haven't had a need to hire or buy a wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man for my own marketing business. Not yet anyway...

A Santa Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man in Stockport

Spotting a Christmas-themed Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man in Stockport.

While heading to my local Morrisons supermarket in Cheadle Heath my finely honed senses alerted me to something ludicrous across the car park - a Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man at the Stockport branch of Terry's Fabrics.

And it wasn't just any old Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man. No, it was a Father Christmas Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man! Something I've not seen before. A marvellous a sight to behold.

In my element

It's almost a year to the day since I spotted a non-articulated inflatable advertising Xmas Tree in my old home town of Luton.

Airdancers - to give them their official name - are one of my favourite forms of advertising. They certainly are attention grabbing.

Do check out the Terry's Fabrics, Stockport website for more info.

A visit to Bridlington

Blog from a couple of hours in Bridlington.

In July we had a fun, albeit short, trip to Bridlington. The seaside town has long been on our to-visit list and it did not disappoint. We're already really looking forward to going back for longer next summer.

Well be posting more pics and videos from the minigolf, crazy golf and adventure golf courses we played there, but before we get to that I had to post a snap of this great inflatable that we saw at the Bayside Fun Park on the seafront!

I'm always on the lookout for quirky and fun stuff to spot on our travels. We see quite a few Wacky Waving Arm-Flailing Inflatable Tube Men aka Airdancers. And next door-but-one to the Treasure Island Adventure Golf course there was one sat atop the Tidal Treats shop!

Plaque-ing Interesting

Doing a spot of historic plaque spotting on our travels.

Travelling around as much as Emily and I do its inevitable things leap out of the surrounding area and catch our eye.

While we are primarily interested in visiting each and every seaside in the UK (175 and counting) and all of the country’s Miniature Golf courses (currently at 536) over the years our interest has been piqued by a wide-range of other bits and pieces.

From funny signs to interesting places, missing letters to brown tourist signs, bollards to bun throwingabandoned shoes to Bar Billiards tables, and wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube men to milestones we’ve spotted and done a lot of very different things on our thousands upon thousands of miles of road trips around the British Isles.

The latest ‘thing’ that’s piqued our interest is Plaques.

Last year I bought a book called 'Signs of life', by Dave Askwith and Alex Normanton, that contained photos of spoof signs and mock street furniture the pair had created and put up around the country. One of the photos showed a faux 'English Heritage' Blue Plaque commemorating the ‘famous’ Jacob von Hogflume (1864-1909) – a noted Time Traveller who lived at the site of the blue plaque in Golden Square, London in the year 2063! Oh yes he exists, he’s even on twitter so he must be real.

Sadly when I visited the location in the book the plaque was no longer there, instead I snapped this legitimate blue plaque put up by English Heritage.

A Blue Plaque
The Marquess of Pombal lived here. Jacob Von Hogflume will live there in the future

From there I found the Open Plaques website and online resource (with a very active Twitter and Facebook presence).

Historic plaques come in a number of shapes, sizes and colours, and act as historical markers commemorating links between famous people or events. There is a range of criteria as to how one gets installed and by who, and we’ve spotted a lot of different types on our travels. One of my favourite ‘spots’ to date was in Enfield, Middlesex recently.

Me and the plaque that commemorates Reg 'Stan Butler' Varney's use of the world's first cash machine in Enfield!

Ahead of our visit I’d consulted the excellent Londonist website for ideas of places to go and things to see in Enfield. As well as the great riverside pub – The Crown and Horseshoes – the Londonist article reminded me that Enfield’s branch of Barclay’s bank was the location of the world’s very first cash machine – opened and used by Reg Varney in 1967!

As a big fan of On the Buses I had a chance to see the Reg Varney Star Plaque on the Elstree & Borehamwood Walk of Fame by the train station during the On The Buses Fan Club 40th Anniversary event in 2011 and it was great to follow this up with the chance to have a photo at ‘Stan Butler’s’ cashpoint!

Do check out the Open Plaques website for details of plaques worldwide. If you spot any that aren’t on the site do let them know as they are keen for more contributors.

So far we've spotted a variety of plaques including blue, green, red, black, brown, gold, silver ones; ones that are official, some unofficial; round ones, square ones, rectangular one, oval ones; plain ones and some more fancy. And by the looks of the Open Plaques website and community there are thousands more to find!

As well as the English Heritage plaques we've spotted those put up by the Cecil Court Traders' Association, the Stone Federation, the City of Westminster, Westminster City Council, Hastings Borough Council, the London County Council, Bournemouth Borough Council, Worthing Borough Council, the Heritage Lottery Fund, Walton Community Forum, Barnard Council Town Council, The Corporation of the City of London, The Ipswich Society, the Greater London Council, Barclays Bank Plc, Luton Borough Council, the African Caribbean Community Development Forum, the Rotary Clubs of Worthing and Worthing Steyne, Heritage in Sutton and the Republic of Texas!

Here’s a selection of our favourite plaques spotted so far…
