Lost Minigolf Courses - Moroccan Adventure Golf at Pleasureland in Southport

A look back at the Moroccan Adventure Golf course at Pleasureland in Southport in 2009.

We visited Southport for the first time back in September 2009. It was the last Friday of the summer season but Pleasureland had closed down so we weren't able to play the Moroccan-themed Adventure Golf layout that was there at the time.

It's one of my favourite lost minigolf courses as it had a theme we hadn't seen before and haven't seen on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour travels since.

  

From Pleasureland Southport to Adventure Coast Southport.

Pleasureland Southport has undergone several changes in the years since we visited, and is now known as Adventure Coast Southport.

Adventure Coast Southport is home to a Viking-themed Adventure Golf course.

We've found quite a lot of abandoned, derelict, closed and lost minigolf, crazy golf and adventure golf courses on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour over the last 20 years.

Playing Miniature Golf in the Boondocks

A look back at my visit to the Miniature Golf course at Boondocks Fun Center in Northglenn, Colorado, USA in 2009.

I played the two outdoor miniature golf courses at Boondocks Fun Center in the town of Northglenn, Colorado in March 2009.

My visit came during a trip to Denver to attend the week-long SportAccord conference in the city. During some downtime I travelled outside the city limits to play miniature golf in the Boondocks!

As it was '$12 Tuesday' I had unlimited play on the minigolf courses - the 'Caverns Mill' and 'Hillbilly Hallow' - that sit next to Interstate-25. I managed to fit in three rounds on the two layouts.

The courses were the 82nd and 83rd played on the Crazy World of Minigolf Tour.

Arnold Palmer Putting course at Pop’s Meadow in Gorleston-on-Sea, Norfolk

A look at the old Arnold Palmer Putting course at Pop’s Meadow in June 2010.

Miniature Golf of one sort or another has been played on the site since the early to mid-1900's.

There used to be an Arnold Palmer Putting Course at Pop’s Meadow Putting Green in Gorleston-on-Sea. In May 2009 that layout became the 100th visited overall on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour.

We played the 9-hole Arnold Palmer Putting Course that was at Pop’s Meadow back in June 2010.

There is still a crazy golf course at Pop’s Meadow. The area is now Pop’s Meadow Kids Amusement Park and Café.

Arnold Palmer Putting Courses.

Arnold Palmer Putting Courses are a design classic and include all the elements that make a Crazy Golf course great – the Windmill, the Waterwheel, an Obelisk, ledges, bunkers, traps, flat loops, hills and plateaus – everything laid out to make a course interesting, testing and most of all fun!

The Arnold Palmer branded miniature golf courses were part of the Arnold Palmer Enterprises empire set-up in 1961 that saw the legendary golfer's name licensed and franchised to a wide-range of activities and products including Dry Cleaning centres and an Arnold Palmer brand foot detergent.

By 1966 there were 130 Arnold Palmer Putting Courses in the USA, with ten in Japan and some in South Africa.

Crazy Golf course at Gynn Gardens in Blackpool

A look at a lost crazy golf course in Blackpool, Lancashire.

We visited the crazy golf course at Gynn Gardens in Blackpool back in September 2009.

It's now a lost course as it was removed at some point between October 2009 and November 2012.

Do you have memories of playing the crazy golf course at Gynn Gardens?

It was of a similar design to the crazy golf course nearby on Princess Parade and in the town's Stanley Park.

Gynn Gardens was also home to a grass putting miniature golf course.

Crazy Golf at Holyhead Town Park in Holyhead, Isle of Anglesey, Wales

We enjoyed a big minigolf tour of the Welsh coast in August 2009 where we visited 32 courses in nine days. One of those was the crazy golf course at Holyhead Town Park in Holyhead, Isle of Anglesey, Wales.

A lost minigolf course.

Looking online the course isn't there anymore and was removed sometime between July 2014 and December 2021.

We're glad we had the chance to play the unique layout on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour when we did.

In our minigolf match-up Emily won with a round of 53 to my score of 66. It's still one of the largest winning margins between us in the last 20 years!
