Crazy Golf at Sutton Fields in Sutton Weaver Village

Playing Crazy Golf at Sutton Weaver Village near Runcorn, Cheshire.

Over the years we've played some strange crazy golf courses in weird locations and on Saturday 22nd July we were able to add another oddity to our list as we played a round on the miniature golf course at Sutton Farm Cheshire. The farm is at Sutton Weaver Village near Runcorn, Cheshire.

At the 744th course visited on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour

What made the fun experience strange was that the course itself is located at what was once a Golf Driving Range but is now part of the farm and is being used as a dog training centre! Another first for us on our travels.

The course was the 439th we've played

When we arrived we thought the visit was going to be another to add to the 'unplayable' files, or worse the course may have been completely removed. We spotted three of the holes and then, through an archway in the tall hedge spotted other holes. As the course layout looked unlike anything we'd seen before we had to have a game on it. We spoke to the man there, Mike, who told us about the site and that we were welcome to have a game. After grabbing our sticks we jumped on the course for a very fun round of crazy golf.

The course itself is a miniature version of the 'eternit' format of the game. It's obviously seen better days, but was still quite playable.



We even shot some aces during our game! Incredibly I played the flat loop hole better than I have done on any previous occasion - including when I've had to tackle the obstacle in international tournaments!



In our match to contest the Sutton Weaver Village Classic title I picked up the win 20 to 22.



The course was the first we played on a day out which also included visits to the indoor Adventure Golf course at Cheshire Oaks, an abandoned Crazy Golf course at Higher Bebington Recreation Ground near Birkenhead, and Championship Adventure Golf in New Brighton!

Dogs take over Crazy Golf course in Oxford

Well, over the years we've heard a lot of crazy things in the world of minigolf, but this story in the Oxford Times certainly takes the (dog) biscuit!

Check out the online petition for more details of the plan to turn the old miniature golf course into a dog play area.

The course is of the Swedish Felt B-run variety

The Florence Park Crazy Golf course in Oxford was the 119th played on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour when we swung into my home city back in August 2009.

On our travels we've seen dogs, cats and chickens on minigolf courses. But never a course purpose built for animals. It's a fascinating idea for an underused course.

Thinking about it, it'd be interesting to see a painting of dogs playing minigolf similar to those poker ones...

It was taken during the final rounds of the Castle Golf World Crazy Golf Championship in Hastings on Sunday 28th October 2012. The dog was one of the most excited members of the crowd at the event!

Animal Crackers on the UK Minigolf Circuit.

2012 has been a cracking year for minigolf, but this year has seen three curious incidences of Dogs making appearances at a British Minigolf Association Tour event!

At today's BMGA British Club Championship held at the 9-hole Mini Golf course Basingstoke Golf Centre in sunny Basingstoke a small scamp of a dog interrupted proceedings by making its way onto the course, have a sniff of a few players, roll in some bushes, sit on my foot, pose for a photo and run off into the trees next to the nearby Putting Green.

The Basingstoke intruder makes its getaway

At last month's tenth annual Castle Golf World Crazy Golf Championship the BMGA Tour welcomed it’s newest, and some might say biggest, fan in a dog that went crazy for the Minigolf action on holes 16, 17 and 18 of the Arnold Palmer Crazy Golf course on Hastings Seafront! Many a veteran player was enchanted by its behaviour and confusion as it marvelled at the multitude of multi-coloured Golf Balls dropping off a small ledge and disappearing down a hole.

The first dog encounter of the season was at the BMGA British Masters held at the 18-hole Splash Point Mini Golf course in Worthing's Denton Gardens back in April. The park area is popular amongst dog walkers and their pets and during the action (handily filmed by the team at the coincidentally named 2dogimaging) one 'lovable' canine called "Bonnie", perhaps looking for its own 'Fenton' moment, made itself known to the players in the tournament and the wider world by running all over the course!

There was also a cat on the course at the BMGA British Club Championships at Basingstoke. However, no photos of this feline were snapped as players were too busy shooing it off of the course.
