The Floodgate turns one
Happy birthday to The Floodgate in Digbeth.
The Floodgate in Digbeth, Birmingham opened it's doors a year ago today.
Pit-Pat table golf at The Floodgate in Digbeth, Birmingham |
It was brilliant to be the first player on the Pit-Pat table golf layout as I'm a big fan of the minigolf and pool crossover game.
You can also play on indoor baseball batting cages and a curling rink at the competitive socialising venue.
Visit The Floodgate website for more information, opening times and prices.

Blockbuster Crazy Golf
A look at the Blockbuster Video minigolf hole at Ghetto Golf in Birmingham.
I revisited the site of the last Blockbuster Video store in Manchester last Sunday. I'd first seen the old shop at Fallowfield Retail Park last October.
Interestingly there is still another 'Blockbuster' store in the UK. It's part of the Ghetto Golf indoor crazy golf course at The Custard Factory in Digbeth, Birmingham.

A visit to The Floodgate in Digbeth, Birmingham
Checking out The Floodgate, a new experiential entertainment venue in Digbeth.
Last Wednesday I headed down to Birmingham to check out the new indoor entertainment venue at the Custard Factory in Digbeth.
The Floodgate is home to three activities - indoor baseball batting cages, curling and Pit-Pat table golf.
As a BIG fan of all things minigolf-related my main interest was the Pit-Pat table golf.
Pit-Pat is similar to crazy golf in that you have to play over, up, through and around different obstacles on each of the tables. The main difference though is that you use a cue rather than a club.
After checking out the baseball cages in the main bar area I walked through a corridor to find the curling rink.

A little further down the corridor was a sign for Pit-Pat and then to the left was a doorway into the Pit-Pat course.
The Pit-Pat layout is split into three, with most of the tables in one large retro graffiti art covered room. The tables have been UV painted and so there's a nice glow-in-the dark look to it.
Table 12 can be found all on its own in a very cool black & white room. The mono look is a very nice contrast to the UV sections.
Tables 13 to 18 then follow, with more graffiti art on the walls and some tricky obstacles including a bridge, ramp & net, pipes and a loop-di-loop to tackle.
It was brilliant to be the first person to play the UK's first and only indoor UV Pit-Pat Table Golf course. I had five rounds at The Floodgate, scoring 47, 51, 37, 34 and 36. I was very happy with my rounds in the 30s and the 34 was very sweet as I shot four aces.
I'd previously played Pit-Pat at the UK's only previous course back in 2014. Sadly that course in Littlehampton became a lost course a couple of years ago.
As I was leaving to catch my train back home the Pit-Pat area began to fill up with more players taking to the tables.
This is a nice obstacle and hole to play into |
It was nice to see people enjoying the batting cages and curling too, along with the street food and well stocked bar.

Laser Tag in Birmingham
Spotting a Laser Tag centre in Birmingham.
On my recent trip to Birmingham I stumbled upon the Laser Tag centre at Teamworks Karting in Digbeth.
Great to know there's one there. I really need to have another game of laser tag soon.
Check out the Teamworks Karting website for more information.
Along with my sixth sense in finding minigolf courses I seem to also be able to sniff out a laser tag arena wherever I go.

Good luck to the team at The Floodgate in Birmingham as the venue opens today.

The Floodgate is about to open
A new indoor activity entertainment centre is opening in Digbeth, Birmingham.
The Floodgate social sports and games bar is opening soon in Digbeth and will offer people the chance to play the game of Pit-Pat.
Pit-Pat is similar to minigolf, but is played on elevated tables where you use cues to play the ball, rather than putters.
Playing the only other Pit-Pat course to have previously been in the UK |
The Floodgate opens at The Custard Factory in Digbeth, Birmingham on Friday 1st November.
The Pit-Pat layout at The Floodgate will be the UK's first indoor Pit-Pat and the only playable course. Until a few years ago the UK's first and only other Pit-Pat layout was on the seafront at Western Putting on Banjo Road in Littlehampton.
The now sadly closed Western Putting in Littlehampton was home to a Pit-Pat layout, Crazy Golf and a grass Putting course |

Here's me scoring a two in a crazy way!

I first saw the game of Pit-Pat aka Hindernis Billard while on a minigolfing trip to Austria in March 2010.

A revisit to the Ghetto Golf course at the Custard Factory in Digbeth, Birmingham.
Over the weekend we revisited the Ghetto Golf course at the Custard Factory in Digbeth, Birmingham. Last year the indoor Crazy Golf course became the 780th course visited on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour.
Ghetto Golf is a Cool Spot to visit |
Sonic the Hedgehog appears on the final hole (Final Zone?) |
Super Mario can be found on the course too |
As can Donkey Kong! |
The final few holes are all retro videogame related |
I love this piece of artwork and the use of the wall |

Ghetto Golf in Birmingham
Hole 18 of the Ghetto Golf course in Digbeth |
While on a recent visit to Birmingham I swung by the new Ghetto Golf course at the Custard Factory in Digbeth.
Ghetto Golf's entrance |
Unfortunately I didn't have time for a game on the 18-hole indoor Crazy Golf course as I had a train to catch. The course was looking nice and busy during my later afternoon visit.
Some of the holes look amazing - I love the Sonic the Hedgehog loop-di-loop 18th.
It looks like Ghetto Golf could be a blockbuster venue |
Some of the holes are rather risque!
This caption is censored! |
I'm looking forward to a game with Emily at Ghetto Golf in Birmingham (and at the Liverpool course).
Hole 3 is a bus |
Yes, an actual bus! |
There's plenty of seating to celebrate your win (or grouch about your loss) at Ghetto Golf |
Visit the Ghetto Golf website for more information, opening times and prices.
It's always fun seeing Simpsons artwork |
On my last trip to Birmingham I had a sneak peak at the indoor Crazy Golf course while it was under construction. It looks like the team at Ghetto Golf have done a marvellous job of converting the old hall at the Custard Factory into the minigolf course!
