Winning the Paradise Island Adventure Golf Open Championship 2018

Yesterday evening I collected my trophy and prize for winning the Paradise Island Adventure Golf Open Championship at the Trafford Centre venue in Manchester.

What a tournament to win. It's a title I've wanted to win for years!

My score of 31 - the course par is 42 - was enough to fend off the challenge of hundreds of other players who competed over the four-day event.

As part of the prize I received a 6-month free game pass so Emily and I enjoyed a two-round 36-hole game over the two courses yesterday too. We shot a fair few aces on both courses, but were nowhere near the form of last week! We're looking forward to our next match-up at Paradise Island Adventure Golf.

Happy tenth birthday to Paradise Island Adventure Golf in Manchester

Today is the tenth birthday of Paradise Island Adventure Golf at Manchester's Trafford Centre.

Happy tenth birthday to Paradise Island Adventure Golf in Manchester and congratulations on the minigolf milestone.

About to score a hole-in-one on the 11th hole at Paradise Island Adventure Golf last December

The Tiki Hut Trail and Temple Ruins Adventure courses at the Trafford Centre's 36-hole indoor Adventure Golf venue were the 85th and 86th courses played on our travels back in 2009. We've returned a number of times since then and following our move north in 2016 Paradise Island Adventure Golf is actually now one of our local courses.

There are six Paradise Island Adventure Golf courses and the Manchester layout recently received a spruce up as part of the birthday celebrations. The course now includes some of the features found at the Sheffield and Cheshire Oaks courses, including ships, sharks and seagulls.

Next week Paradise Island Adventure Golf tees-off it's own Open tournament, with each of the Paradise Island Adventure Golf courses in the country inviting players to submit their scores to the competition leaderboard.

Paradise Island Adventure Golf in Manchester

A revisit to the Paradise Island Adventure Golf course in Manchester.

On Thursday 28th December we visited Paradise Island Adventure Golf at the Trafford Centre in Manchester for a round with our friend and Finnish minigolf champion John Mittler. There are two 18-hole indoor courses at Paradise Island Adventure Golf and we picked the Temple Ruins minigolf course for our round.

Paradise Island Adventure Golf is our local course - a short drive up the M60 - and we've played there a few times on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour. They were originally the 85th and 86th played on our travels back in 2009.

John got off to a brilliant start with an ace on the first hole, although this was followed by a pair of threes. I started off with three steady twos, while Emily shot two, three, two.

At the end of our round I came out the winner with a score of 31 (five aces and no dropped shots), John shot a 37 for second place, while Emily shot the course par of 42.

Paradise Island in Manchester was the last minigolf course visit of 2016 - and it's likely to be the last minigolf course we visit this year too!

In July this year we played the courses as part of the PIAG Open competition. On that occasion I shot a 39 (including a seven) and Emily had a 42 on the Temple Ruins course. We also had a round at the Paradise Island Adventure Golf centre at Cheshire Oaks this summer.

In our match-up I picked up the win with a score of 43 to Emily's 46. Neither score was enough to trouble the leaderboard for the PIAG Open competition which was running during our visit. Emily did manage to win a free game on the Lucky Last Hole though.

My favourite part of the course was the 'bottomless pit'!

We'll be back to play the Lazy Lagoon course in the future.

Paradise Island Adventure Golf at the Trafford Centre

Playing at the indoor Paradise Island Adventure Golf courses at the Trafford Centre.

Yesterday evening we headed along for a couple of rounds of minigolf at Paradise Island Adventure Golf at the Trafford Centre in Manchester.

I last played the course back in April 2009 while Emily had a round on the course in April of this year. The Tiki Hut Trail and Temple Ruins Adventure courses were originally the 85th and 86th played on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour.

Our rounds on the courses last night were part of the PIAG Open competition running from the 20th to 23rd July, with entry to the contest open to anyone playing a round on the layout. The PIAG Open is also running at the other Paradise Island Adventure Golf venues at Cheshire Oaks, Glasgow, Livingston, Sheffield and Derby.

First up we played the Temple Ruins Adventure where I shot a 39 (including a dreaded 7 on the 5th hole) to Emily's 42. On the Tiki Hut Trail we both improved our scores. I settled into the course a bit more and recorded a 34, with Emily hitting a 38.

We're yet to play the Livingston or Cheshire Oaks layouts - but they are on our 'To Play' list. Now we live up north the Manchester and Cheshire Oaks courses are our two local venues. Which reminds me, I need to organise a minigolf match up against the Paradise Island mascot, Maggie McCaw!

The last minigolf course visit of 2016

The last minigolf course visit of 2016 was made by Emily on her shopping trip to the Trafford Centre in Manchester on New Year's Eve.

The Paradise Island Adventure Golf courses were originally the 85th and 86th courses visited on the Crazy World of Minigolf Tour in April 2009.

Now we live locally we'll hopefully get along for more rounds on the 36-hole indoor Adventure Golf layout.

Paradise Island Adventure Golf have other jungle themed courses at Cheshire Oaks, Glasgow, Livingston and Sheffield. With a new course planned to open in Derby later this year.

We played the Glasgow courses a few years ago and the Sheffield centre was the first we visited in 2016.

Minigolf sharks in Sheffield

More miniature golf sharks sighted on our adventure golf travels.

Another minigolf shark captured on our adventures

While playing at the Paradise Island Adventure Golf course in Sheffield we spotted some more minigolf sharks!

Why would you need a Liferaft on an indoor Adventure Golf course?

Because of this!

Paradise Island Adventure Golf in Sheffield

Playing at Paradise Island Adventure Golf in Sheffield on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour.

Driving home from a few days away in Leeds we called in to the Valley Centertainment leisure park in Sheffield to play at Paradise Island Adventure Golf.

A lovely bit of theming

We've wanted to play the courses for a few years now and were really looking forward to our round. We weren't disappointed as it was great fun.

Playing hole one

We decided to play the Cinnamon Cove course, one of the two 18-hole courses there, and teed-off in our very competitive contest.

On dry land in Cinnamon Cove

The Paradise Island Adventure Golf layout in Sheffield is unique, fun, well designed and looks magnificent.

All aboard!

It's not often we play a course where you actually do feel transported to a different location, but the starting-point of the Cinnamon Cove course does that, with the very nice ship-effect.

A fairly straight first hole

Emily holing out

From the confines of the boat you make your way to the jungle-themed course, full of animatronic animals, tikki heads, monkeys, tunnels, hills and pipes. And a Cannibal Camp!

Outside the Cannibal Camp in Cinnamon Cove

We were concerned that playing the course on a rainy Saturday morning would mean we'd be queuing a lot on the courses, but even though there were quite a few other players out on the course the games were flowing nicely and we were able to wrap up our game in about 45 minutes.

In amongst the cargo on the first hole

The other players seemed to be enjoying themselves, with plenty of shouting, cheering and laughing heard around the course. Something that is always nice to see in minigolf.

A lovely little loop hole. A nice ace opportunity

The cheeky monkeys get quite raucous on this hilly pipe hole

Emily about to ace the 13th. I threed it

The Cinnamon Cove course became the 391st course played on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour, and the 674th visited overall since we started our tour of the UK's courses in September 2006.

Perhaps Emily should of rubbed the Buddha's belly on the 17th hole for good luck

As the very tricky 18th hole was to be her undoing

In our 18-hole match-up I defeated Emily by one-shot - the 18th hole was a cruel decider - with a 40 to 41 scoreline. Emily won on aces, scoring a pair of holes-in-one on the 4th and 13th holes. We found there were plenty of ace opportunities on the course as we were leaving plenty of shots out there as tap-in twos.

A pair of characters

Neither of us won on the 'lucky' 19th hole

We're looking forward to returning to play the Shell Bay course one day in the future. Hopefully on a return to Paradise Island Adventure Golf I'll get to see the course mascot Maggie McCaw!

The starting point for the second course at Paradise Island Adventure Golf

A view of the Shell Bay course

As a big collector of minigolf merch it was brilliant to be able to buy some trinkets at Paradise Island Adventure Golf. I bought a button badge, keyring and golf ball stress ball.

A nice selection of minigolf merch

You can find the 36-hole Paradise Island Adventure Golf at the Valley Centertainment leisure park in Sheffield. There did look like there was plenty to do there, including two of our other favourites - laser tag and tenpin bowling!

Another minigolf shark captured on our tour

We've been to Paradise Island Adventure Golf courses in Manchester and Glasgow, and the courses at Livingston and Cheshire Oaks are on our 'to visit' list.
