Minigolfing in Lytham Saint Annes

A return visit to the seaside at Lytham Saint Annes.

Yesterday I returned to the Fylde coast for a bit of minigolf fun in the sun. That bit turned into a LOT of minigolf as I ended up playing eight rounds on five courses in Lytham Saint Annes - a total of 79 holes.

Course one was a replay of the Crazy Golf at MiniLinks on the sea front. Good to see Humpty was still there

Course two was the new Pennines Putting layout on the sea front

Course three was an unexpected one as I didn't know there was a Crazy Golf course on the pier until I saw the sign for it!

The trip to Lytham Saint Annes has helped push the Crazy World of Minigolf Tour up to 742 course visits.

The biggest of the five courses I played was the Par-3 MiniLinks course

More blogs to follow about the three courses at MiniLinks (Pennines Putting, Crazy Golf and a lovely Par-3 layout), Crazy Golf at Fairhaven Lake and a Minigolf course I wasn't expecting to find at the end of St Annes pier!

I finally got to properly visit the Crazy Golf course at Fairhaven Lakes. Nine years after my first brief stop there!

Crazy Golf at Haigh Woodland Park in Wigan

Playing the Crazy Golf course at Haigh Woodland Park in Wigan.

On Saturday 8th April we headed to Haigh Woodland Park in Wigan to compete in the first-ever Great Northern Minigolf Open competition played out on the two miniature golf courses in the park.

The course was open and proving popular

The second course we played was the old Crazy Golf course operated by the Friends of Haigh Country Park group.

At £1 per game the course is the lowest price we've ever found for an 18-hole course on our travels. Amazing value for money.

My first hole in one of the day - scored on the 'windmill with no blades labyrinth' hole!

The course was incredibly popular and had a good throughput of players all day. It's an interesting layout as the course has been added to over the years so has quite a hotch potch of obstacles. Not that that is a bad thing, it was certainly unique.

The course is quite crazy

The Haigh Woodland Park Crazy Golf course was the 728th visited on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour and the 701st in the UK. It became the 428th played on our travels since September 2006.

The tank obstacle was particularly odd and quite out of place on the course. It was an interesting and very tough hole

2nd - Richard Gottfried - 44
3rd - Emily Gottfried - 49
4th - John Moore - 50
5th - Russ Dent - 51
6th - Cat Patterson - 59

Visit the Friends of Haigh Country Park website for further information and course opening times. Back in 2012 the course was partly derelict, but the Friends group have done a brilliant job of getting it spruced up and fully open again.

Humpty

Humpty Crazy Golf obstacles spotted on the Crazy World of Minigolf Tour 2007-2017!

Travelling around as many Miniature Golf courses as we do it's inevitable that the same obstacle will be seen over and over again. One of these characters is 'Humpty', who we have spotted at ten courses on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour

Me and the latest Humpty we've spotted at The Grove Park Crazy Golf course in Carshalton in 2013

If you know of any Miniature Golf courses with a Humpty on it do let us know!

On our travels around the UK we've found a number of courses with a Humpty on it. The obstacles and some of the courses themselves come from Minigolf course supplier DK Fibreglass. Check out the DK Fibreglass website for details of the range of Mini and Crazy Golf courses they offer and the novelty hazards they can supply. DK Fibreglass supplied the Crazy Golf course that is in Luton's Wardown Park, sadly it hasn't got a Humpty on it.

There are also some Octopus 'characters' on the DK Fibreglass Crazy Golf courses and we've spotted these in Eglwyswrw, Llanrhystud, KnaresboroughSmeeth and Wigan!

Crazy Golf at Bitts Park in Carlisle

Playing the Crazy Golf course at Bitts Park in Carlisle.

On the 5th April 2012 we visited Carlisle and the Crazy Golf course at Bitts Park.

The Bitts Park course was one of 13 we played on a roadtrip that took us to 49 minigolf courses in England and Scotland.

At the 471st course on our tour

The Crazy Golf course was similar to the Eternite style, but each hole had a fibreglass obstacle on it, including one Humpty. The course was the 289th played and 471st visited on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour.

Humpty!

However, only one of the holes was anything but a straight 'lane'. With the pyramid obstacle hole being a dogleg right.

In our minigolf match-up Emily won with a score of 31 to 23.

We found somewhere to have a nice sit down after our game too.

Visiting the new Crazy Golf course at Verulamium Park in St Albans

Miniature Golf course visit number 543 on the Crazy World of Minigolf Tour.

On a very rainy Saturday afternoon Emily and I made the latest course visit on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour as we visited the Crazy Golf course in Verulamium Park, St Albans.

The park was the location for the 17th course ever played on the Tour, way back in April 2007. I also revisited in November 2010 and noticed a couple of changes to the Minigolf.

Since that last visit the old course has been replaced by a new course. The new layout is still a 9-hole course and of the same fibreglass construction, but each of the holes is in the shape of a letter in the words "Crazy Golf".

Unfortunately that great Minigolf character 'Humpty' is now missing from the course :-(

The Verulamium Park Crazy Golf was the first we've been to that uses this particular layout. Although down the road in nearby Hemel Hempstead there is a Minigolf course at Gadebridge Park where each of the holes is in the shape of its number!
