The World's Oldest Bowling Green

A visit to Southampton Old Bowling Green - the World's Oldest Bowling Green.

As a fan of sporting history it was very interesting to stumble upon the World's Oldest Bowling Green during our minigolfing road-trip to Hampshire.

We've not played a game of bowls before. But we do play Petanque. We've also played minigolf on a number of bowling greens that have been used as Putting courses, including Edinburgh, Glasgow and at the Wales National Crown Green Bowling Centre in Rhyl. We also found an excellent pair of Putting courses in Looe, Cornwall. Our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour has also seen us play miniature golf at the bowling club in Aberdovey, Wales.

Crazy Golf at Southampton Outdoor Sports Centre

A visit to the Crazy Golf course at the Outdoor Sports Centre in Southampton.

Our road-trip to Southampton saw us visit 18 more courses. One of which we found during a drive round.

We'd spotted a brown sign for the Southampton Municipal Golf course and went to check it out. While looking on the map Emily noticed that the golf course was next to the Outdoor Sports Centre and wouldn't you know it but there was the outline of a miniature golf course.

Sure enough we found a minigolf course in the grounds of the sports centre and it was surprising to see it was of the mini-Eternit Miniature Golf variety - a smaller version of a minigolf type more commonly found in continental Europe.

We've only seen one course like it before, at Sutton Farm Cheshire at Sutton Weaver Village near Runcorn, Cheshire. That course is located at what was once a Golf Driving Range but is now part of the farm and is being used as a dog training centre!

The Crazy Golf course at the Southampton Outdoor Sports Centre was the 872nd course visited on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour. Sadly we didn't have time to play it as we had to get to a wedding!

Adventure Golf at Hedge End Golf Centre in Southampton

A visit to the new Adventure Golf course at Hedge End Golf Centre in Southampton.

The Adventure Begins at Hedge End. On the 18th of May

During our recent minigolf road-trip we visited Hedge End Golf Centre in Southampton as we'd been told via a comment on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour Facebook Page that a new Adventure Golf course was being built there.

When we arrived we saw the T-Rex and a lot of BIG theming on the new course.

The Adventure Golf course at Hedge End Golf Centre will be one of three Mighty Adventures courses, the others being in Bournemouth, Dorset and Colchester, Essex.

The course is due to open on Saturday 18th May.
