Happy Minigolf Tag 2013 (Minigolf Day)

National Day of Miniature Golf in Austria on Sunday 28th of April!

Minigolf Tag (Minigolf Day) is organised by the Austrian Minigolf Federation (Österreichischer Bahnengolf-Verband - OBGV) and 2013's Minigolf Tag is the fourth edition of the event.

Around 550,000 Austrians (some 15% of the country's population) play Minigolf each year and from 10am until 5pm on Sunday 28th of April 50 Minigolf courses in Austria will be celebrating the event with free games on offer, and tips and tricks on display from professional players.

For more information please visit the Minigolf Tag website.

In March 2010 I visited Austria and the Askoe Wien Wasserpark in Vienna where I was able to play one of the toughest (and longest) Swedish Felt Minigolf courses. It was the 163rd played on the Crazy World of Minigolf Tour.

I also got to see, but not play, the Eternit Miniature Golf at the sports club and I also saw the interesting Minigolf/Billiards variant game 'Pit Pat' (known in Austria as 'Hindernis Billards')!

There are also two other Miniature Golf Days. 'National Miniature Golf Day' is on Saturday 11th of May and 'Miniature Golf Day' always falls on the 21st of September each year. This year it's on a Saturday. Both of these days will see players from the British Minigolf Association in action as the BMGA British Championships at Wroxham Barns and the BMGA British Open at Strokes Adventure Golf will both be getting underway!

And don't forget, on Twitter every Monday is #MinigolfMonday!

Miniature Golf Days in 2013

Special days to celebrate Minigolf!

If, like me, you're a fan of Miniature Golf (and it's many varieties) you'll be pleased to know that there are a number of special days to celebrate the great game!

The first will be on Saturday 11th of May 2013 which marks 'National Miniature Golf Day'.

The second is 'Miniature Golf Day' which always falls on the 21st of September and this year will be a Saturday.

Interestingly two British Minigolf Association Tour competitions will be taking place on each of the above 'days', with the BMGA British Championships taking place at Wroxham Barns in Hoveton, Norfolk on the weekend of the 11th & 12th of May. Saturday 21st September will see the first day's play of the BMGA British International Open contested at Strokes Adventure Golf in Margate, Kent.

Last year on the 6th of May the Austrian Minigolf Federation (Österreichischer Bahnengolf-Verband - OBGV) organised the third-annual 'Minigolf Tag' ('Minigolf Day').

Happy Miniature Golf Day 2012!

Wishing everyone all the best on this most wonderful day.

Whatever you call the great game of Miniature Golf and wherever you are in the world I hope you have a brilliant Miniature Golf Day 2012!

As ever, according to the Holiday Insights website, the 21st of September is Miniature Golf Day.

If you're looking for a Minigolf course to play then the list of courses at MiniatureGolfer.com is a great place to start. Pretty much every course in the world is listed on the site, with more added as they are 'discovered'!

On our travels Emily and I have visited and played a great many courses (and a fair few closed, abandoned and derelict ones) and you can check out those we've been to on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour list.

If you fancy taking up the game 'professionally' and are in the UK then do have a look at the British Minigolf Association - you can join for FREE. Do also check out the BMGA on Facebook and Twitter. There is also a World Minigolf Sport Federation which has member associations all over the world.

If you're in the USA, or looking to visit, then you must check out The Putting Penguin. There are stacks of course reviews of Minigolf courses, along with details of upcoming tournaments.

If you don't get a chance to do anything Minigolf-ey this Miniature Golf Day then don't worry. The next one will be on Saturday 11th May 2013! There is also a Minigolf Tag (Minigolf Day) in Austria each year. It's also in May.

While looking around for Miniature Golf Day related information online I found out about the 'Mini Golf Day and Crab Feast 2012'. It's a charity Minigolf tournament raising funds for The Ed Block Courage Award Foundation and taking place at ParTee Golf in Baltimore, Maryland, USA on Saturday 29th September 2012!

And remember - Miniature Golf Day is ALWAYS on the 21st September, so next year it'll be on a Saturday.

Miniature Golf Days in 2012

Special days to mark the great game of Miniature Golf.

According to ‘the internet’ there are two days each year to celebrate Miniature Golf!

The first of these is National Miniature Golf Day and falls on the second Saturday in May, this year it’s on Saturday 12th of May. The first ever National Miniature Golf Day was held on the 12th of May 2007!

The second of these is Miniature Golf Day and is always on the 21st of September.

This year the British Minigolf Association Tour will be at Strokes Adventure Golf course in Margate, Kent on the 21st of September (a Friday) and the BMGA Players Championship (and BMGA International Players Championship) will be contested. The weekend of the 22nd and 23rd September sees the 15th annual BMGA British International Open tournament played at the course.

How I celebrated Miniature Golf Day 2011

As the Holiday Insights website informed the world, Wednesday 21st September was Miniature Golf Day.

I celebrated this extra special day in the world of Miniature Golf by visiting my local 9-hole Mini Golf course at Tea Green Golf Club at Wandon End, near Luton.

In a challenge match versus Tea Green Golf Club manager Lester Coles I was defeated over 18-holes by a scoreline of 34-36, I did however follow up this loss with a victory against (course record holder) Scott Holmes in an 18-hole match with a score of 33-35.

Next up we hit the very testing 6-hole Putting Green layout for a contest. The three of us began the round, but Lester was conveniently called away to the bar following a 3 and a 4 on the first two holes. Scott and I continued the 12-hole match with Scott hitting a 12(par) on the front 9, and me with a 14(+2). On the back 9 I managed an 11(-1) to Scott's 14(+2) for me to just edge the victory. Scott told me that prior to our rounds no-one had got close to Par on the 6-hole course layout since it was changed round recently.

It's always great fun heading up to Tea Green Golf Club to have a round or two of Putting and Mini Golf and plenty of banter too! A great way to spend Miniature Golf Day!

The 9-hole Mini Golf course was the 111th course played on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour back in July 2009, the Putting course was the 113th played.
On the way to Tea Green I had swung by Wardown Park to take a snap of the courses down there. Both the Mini Golf (Putting) #19 and the Crazy Golf #18 were closed (for the season).

Dates for your Diary - National Miniature Golf Day

Doing some research I came across the fact that in the USA there are two days set aside as National Miniature Days!

According to Wikipedia National Miniature Golf Day is held every second Saturday of May. The event had its inaugural celebration on May 12, 2007 and this year will fall on the 8th May.

Also, according to the Holiday Insights website Miniature Golf Day is "Always September 21st"!

In 2010 the 21st of September is a Tuesday.

Looking forward to celebrating all things Miniature Golf on both days!
