Mini Golf at Cannon Hill Park in Birmingham

Two new 18-hole Mini Golf courses now open at Cannon Hill Park, Birmingham.

The new Mini Golf centre at Birmingham's Cannon Hill Park opened this week and it looks great.

In brighter weather the course looks even better. Check out this post on the Golden Putter Mini Golf Facebook page for some more photos of the layout.

Back in March our fellow Minigolf Explorers Paul 'Johnson Paul Johnson' Johnson, Owen Johnson, Steve Sturdy and Ruth Burke visited the site and got some snaps of the course being built. Check out the blog post about it at "New Mini Golf course opening soon in Cannon Hill Park, Birmingham."

Emily and I have visited all of the Golden Putter courses so far, except Rotherham. We're looking forward to giving the two new ones in Birmingham a play.

New Mini Golf course opening soon in Cannon Hill Park, Birmingham

36-hole Miniature Golf centre opening at Birmingham's Cannon Hill Park in April 2014.

My fellow Minigolfer adventurers Paul & Owen Johnson and newly based in Birmingham Minigolf duo Steve Sturdy and Ruth Burke have let me know that a new 36-hole Mini Golf centre is opening at Cannon Hill Park in Birmingham in April 2014!

The venue will be home to two 18-hole courses that from the look of the plans and details in the news release sound like they'll be great.

Check out the photos of the new Golden Putter Mini Golf site in the photos below taken by Paul Johnson and Steve Sturdy in March 2014.

Cannon Hill Park has an interesting Miniature Golf history, as many years ago it was home to a concrete Crazy Golf course that Owen 'Jackpot' Johnson unearthed on a visit in 2011.

The remnants of 'hole 3' of the very old Cannon Hill Park Crazy Golf course discovered by Owen Johnson in 2011

The park was then the site of a semi-portable Minigolf course that had made its way from Rotherham, to the Pier in Clacton-on-Sea and then back inland to Birmingham!

Emily and I didn't manage to play the course when it was in Cannon Hill Park, but did play the great (17-hole!) layout in Clacton in 2011.

The team at Golden Putter Mini Golf also operate the Lammas Park Adventure Golf course in Staines, the Minigolf at Wroxham Barns, the Minigolf at St Nicholas Park in Warwick and the Clifton Park course in Rotherham.

Apart from the Rotherham course, our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour has taken us to the rest of those operated by Greenspace Leisure / Golden Putter Mini Golf and really enjoyed testing our skills on them. We're looking forward to heading to play the new layout at Cannon Hill Park soon.

Minigolf Report – Gottfried’s begin new Miniature Golf Season at the BMGA Star City Open in Birmingham

13th and 18th place finishes for Luton-based Minigolfers Richard & Emily Gottfried at the first-event of the BMGA season.

Luton Minigolfers Richard and Emily Gottfried were back in Minigolf action on Sunday 27th January as they teed-off in the first competition of the British Minigolf Association’s 2013 Tour season at the BMGA Star City Open at Adventure Island Mini Golf, Star City, Birmingham.

Richard finished in 13th place for the second year in a row, with Emily in 18th place in the 24-player field.

Richard scored a three-round total of 104(-4), having scored 35, 37 and 32Richard still jointly holds the official BMGA course record of 28(-8) on the Lost Hut Trail which he equalled in 2010 at the BMGA National OpenEmily scored a total 109(+1) after rounds of 36, 32 and 41.
Richard Gottfried playing the 8th hole at Adventure Island Mini Golf
The tournament was played over three 18-hole rounds on the Lost Hut Trail course at the Star City venue and was won by Michael Smith. Adam Kelly was runner-up, with Paul Johnson third.

Richard said "I’m happy with my round of 32, but my 35 and 37 weren't good. I didn't drop many shots, but missed too many hole-in-one opportunities. Emily played some really good Minigolf and it was disappointing to see her drop so many shots on one bad hole. I’m really looking forward to playing at the new BMGA British Crazy Golf Open in Hastings in March and the BMGA British Masters at Splash Point Mini Golf in Worthing."
Emily Gottfried on the 9th hole at Adventure Island Mini Golf
Emily said “Adventure Island Mini Golf at Star City remains as a fantastic location for a winter tournament, as well as a great start to the new season. My first two rounds were great and I played well, but unfortunately one bad hole on the third round was enough to put me out of prize contention. Still, I enjoyed the tournament and the weekend, and can’t wait for the next competition in March.”

Fourth Scrap Iron Cup Minigolf Competition - Results and Report

On Saturday 22nd January five members of the Midlands Minigolf Club (MMGC) took part in the intra-team Scrap Iron Cup competition played at the 36-hole Adventure Island Mini Golf course at Star City, Birmingham. The tournament used a two-round mixed strokeplay and matchplay format.

The top ranked player after round one was British Ladies Number One Cindy Kukielka, who scored the only under-par round with an excellent 34(-2).

To decide who would join Cindy as the other finalist a play-off was required after Paul Johnson and Richard Gottfried had both tied on 37(+1). A sudden-death play-off followed and was won at the fourth extra-hole by Gottfried. The play off saw Paul and Richard score 1-1, 1-1, 2-2 and 4-1.

In the 18-hole Matchplay Match final-round Gottfried won 3&1 in a very back and forth match against Kukielka to dash hopes of the Scrap Iron Cup making its way to Wales for the first time.

The Scrap Iron Cup Championship will be contested again in Bristol in February.

Minigolf Report - Adventure Island Minigolf League – Final Result

Luton Minigolfer Richard Gottfried finished in 2nd place in the Adventure Island Minigolf League held at Star City in Birmingham after being beaten to the title by one point. After nine weeks of play the final rankings in the League were decided on Monday 29th September with reigning World Crazy Golf Champion Chris Harding taking the league title with 31 points, with Richard on 30 points.

Richard had faced a week long wait to confirm his final ranking position having finished his matches with a total of 30 points from 14 matches. He was guaranteed a place in the top two and had been the league leader for four of the league’s nine weeks.

Only Chris Harding posed a threat to the number one spot having three games in hand. Chris needed to gain six points in his three final matches to overhaul Richard. In his matches on Monday Harding achieved two wins and a loss in order to lift the trophy. Jam Trubridge finished in third place.

Gottfried said “Congratulations to Chris who managed to hold it together just enough to beat me in his penultimate game. It was very close at the top of the table and to be beaten by just one point is a bit disappointing, but I’m proud of my win/loss record in the league and I’m looking forward to the challenge of the Winter League starting soon.”

Minigolf Report
Adventure Island Minigolf League – Week 8
Luton Minigolfer Richard Gottfried finished play in the Adventure Island Minigolf League at Star City in Birmingham with two wins on Monday 22nd September. Gottfried defeated John Whitehead 35 to 41 on the Hidden Cove Challenge Course and beat Matthew Harding 38 to 41 on the Lost Hut Trail Course.

Richard now faces a one-week wait to confirm his final ranking position. He is guaranteed a place in the top two and is currently sitting in first place with 30 points from his 10 wins. Only reigning World Crazy Golf Champion Chris Harding poses a threat to the number one spot having three games in hand which he will play next week. Chris must gain six points in his three final matches to overhaul Richard – a win and 2 draws would result in a playoff match over 36 holes.

Gottfried said “I’ve done all I can and played my best Minigolf. I just need to sit tight and let the other matches happen, Chris is the World Champion and is an awesome player, but there are a lot of other good players in the league so I’ll be hoping a bit of luck goes their way when they face him next week.”

In addition to the final table being decided next Monday Richard will also be competing in a Cup Tournament at Star City.
