Crazy Golf at Pop's Meadow in Gorleston-on-Sea

A look at the Crazy Golf course at 'Pop's Meadow Putting Green' in Gorleston-on-Sea, Norfolk.

The rocket ship has received a paint job since our visit in 2010

Founding member of the Crazy World of Minigolf Tour Christopher Gottfried was recently passing through Gorleston-on-Sea in Norfolk and took a couple of snaps of the Crazy Golf course at the Gorleston Fun Park aka Pop's Meadow.

Sadly the course was closed on Christopher's visit

The 9-hole course was the 173rd we played on the Crazy World of Minigolf Tour in June 2010 - it had been the landmark 100th course visited back in May 2009.

Even with the addition of a variety of obstacles over the years - and the lack of felt/carpet - the course is still recognisable as an Arnold Palmer Putting Course. A cracking type of layout and well worth a play.

The course had a classic windmill obstacle on it when we played there in 2010

The Pop's Meadow course is one of many that Christopher has visited and found to be closed. Check out the links below for more details of the courses he has visited since 2011.

Arnold Palmer Crazy Golf at Haven's Caister-on-Sea Holiday Park

The photos our friends Matt and Helen Dodd took of the Arnold Palmer Crazy Golf course at the Haven Golden Sands Caravan Holiday Park in Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire reminded us of this snap our friends Sophia and Karl Moles took while on holiday at Haven's Caister-on-Sea Holiday Park in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk a few years ago.

It's great to see there are still Arnold Palmer Putting Courses dotted around the coast. They're definitely a great part of minigolf history.

Check out Haven's web pages for the Caister-on-Sea Holiday Park for more photos of the Crazy Golf course. They've got an interesting paint job on the classic windmill obstacle.

Crazy Golf at the old Windmill Theatre in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk

A visit to the old Windmill Theatre in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.

Christopher Gottfried visited the old Windmill Theatre in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk on Sunday 31st of March 2013.

Emily and I have visited Great Yarmouth a number of times since our resolution to visit all of the UK’s seasides began in 2006. The resort was amongst the first we visited on our tour and when we arrived on our irregular Minigolf tour in February 2007 we found every one of the courses in Great Yarmouth (and Lowestoft) to be closed. A trend that has continued on many of our Minigolfing roadtrips on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour!

It's always Christmas on one of the holes!

We last played the Indoor Adventure Golf at the Windmill Theatre in August 2011, having first played it in June 2007. It’s one of the most bizarre courses we’ve seen on our travels, and that’s saying something considering we’ve been to 527 Miniature Golf courses to date. The ‘theming’, setting and obstacles are all truly unique. It may not be the biggest or best minigolf courses in the world, but it’s certainly one of the craziest Adventure Golf courses you’re likely to see!

Christopher ‘Bogey’ Gottfried summed up the visit with the comments “It was proper random and had some odd memorabilia and tat around the old theatre and I had no idea who any of the people were on display!”

There's a lot of old film and theatre memorabilia on display at the course

I was surprised at that comment as Christopher is almost as big a fan of On The Buses as I am, and when we last visited they had a big ‘Stars of the Windmill’ display on the new first hole, which had Blakey, Olive and Jack on it!

The Clown's Mouth - a classic Minigolf obstacle

All in all a truly crazy mini golf course.

Crazy Air Squash in Great Yarmouth

The one and only sporting title I walked away from our weekend away in Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth was the winner of the Crazy Air Squash match at the Pleasure Beach in Great Yarmouth - winning 7-5 against Emily.

This was alot better than my last tournament outing at the Peterborough Boom-A-Rang Air Squash Championships where I lost against Rebecca 'The Fen Tigress' Evison in the Grand Final and my dismal performance in the Undisputed International Worlds Crazy Air Squash Championships in September 2010 when I crashed out of the tournament on the wrong end of a 9-nil defeat at the hands of the debuting German Crazy Air Squash Wunderkind Gerhard Zimmermann.

In total we found three Crazy Squash Tables in various amusement arcades in Great Yarmouth - perhaps this is where all the tables that used to be in Hastings were shipped to?

Jungle Golf at the Gardens in Great Yarmouth

Back in June 2007 Emily and I played our 25th course on the Crazy World of Minigolf Tour - Jungle Golf at the Gardens in Great Yarmouth.

At the start of the 2008 Summer Season the 11-hole course was changed from a Safari Golf to a Segway Grand Prix!

Photos from our visit in June 2007.

In our one and only match on the course I defeated Emily 28-30 on the 9th of June 2007.

Quasar in Great Yarmouth - Still Not Played

On our latest trip to Great Yarmouth we were unable to play the Quasar Laser Tag as the man at The Mint Amusement Arcade was unable to start the game up with only two players.

We also visited Great Yarmouth in June and didn't play then either, having missed the start of the game.

The neon Quasar sign has lost an 'A' since our last visit.

Great Yarmouth's Arnold Palmer Putting Courses - Crazy World of Minigolf Tour - Courses Played #22 & #23

We were able to play both the 18-hole and the 9-hole Arnold Palmer Crazy Golf courses in Great Yarmouth on our visit in June 2007. However, on our first visit in February 2007 we were unable to play any of the courses we visited as they were all still shut for the off-season.

The 18-hole Arnold Palmer Putting Course in Great Yarmouth became the 22nd course played on our
Crazy World of Minigolf Tour, while the 9-hole Crazy Golf course next to it became the 23rd played.

In our very first Irregular Mini Golf Tour Match-up on the 18-hole course I defeated Emily 40-41.

On the 9-hole layout we had two rounds with us both scoring equal rounds of 19 and 20.

On our first visit in February 2007 the Arnold Palmer courses in Great Yarmouth were closed.
