World Music Day

Today is World Music Day.

We've seen and played some musical-themed courses on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour over the years.

The 529th course we played was Puttshack super tech mini golf at White City in London. One of the holes there requires you to play your shot over five drums. Emily aced the tricky shot.

My friend and world traveller PJ Goedhals sent me some snaps from his visit to the music-themed minigolf course at O'Learys sports bar in Norrtull, Sweden in 2019.

Last summer there was a music and theatre themed pop-up minigolf course at the Orpheum Theatre in Memphis, Tennessee. Our friend and minigolf rival 'Hacksaw' Jon Drexler was lucky enough to have a game there.

Our friends at A Couple of Putts in the USA let us know about a minigolf-themed song called Putt Putt Butt Butt by Koo Koo Kanga Roo.

One of the latest minigolf courses to open in the UK is Pop Golf - a pop-music themed indoor crazy golf venue at Boxpark Wembley in London.

Windmills by Dracula's Miniskirt

Check out the new video for Windmills by Dracula's Miniskirt.

The new video for the song Windmills by US-band Dracula's Miniskirt features a Crazy Golf windmill.

It's the windmill at the Crazy Golf course in Prestatyn, Wales. It's cool to see a minigolf video of mine in the music video!

Here's me scoring a hole-in-one on it.

Minigolf at O'Learys bar in Norrtull, Stockholm, Sweden

A look at the music-themed minigolf course at O'Learys bar in Norrtull, Stockholm, Sweden.

Many thanks to my friend and world traveller PJ Goedhals for sending over these photos from his visit to the music-themed minigolf course at O'Learys sports bar in Norrtull, Sweden.

Visit the O'Learys website for more information, opening times and prices for the 9-hole miniature golf course.

Last year we visited nine courses on a 42-hour trip to Sweden. One of those was the Sports World Minigolf course at O'Learys in the Mall of Scandinavia. It was the 473rd course we played, 801st visited overall and the 32nd we'd been to overseas. We've now visited 890 courses since September 2006.

There's certainly plenty to see and do in Stockholm and hopefully when we return we'll have more than a couple of days to fit stuff in!

Check out PJ's other guest blog posts on the Ham & Egger Files.

We've also got a lot of other blog posts about Sweden on the site.

Silent movies and Wurlitzer organ music

Stockport Town Hall Silver Screen Evenings with the Lancastrian Theatre Organ Trust.

We're always on the lookout for fun, interesting and different things to see and do, and since moving to the Stockport area three months ago we've had plenty of opportunity to do just that.

On Friday we went along to the Stockport Town Hall Silver Screen Evening to watch the 1920 film Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. We've never seen a silent movie on the big screen before and were very impressed. The film was accompanied by Donald MacKenzie from the Lancastrian Theatre Organ Trust playing the Wurlitzer Organ throughout.

What a setting for a silent movie and Wurlitzer organ music

Stockport Town Hall is a fine setting. It was built at the start of the 20th century and based on Belfast Town Hall. We first visited the hall for a recent postcard fair and were impressed by the nice interior. It was a great place to watch the film and be entertained.

The Lancastrian Theatre Organ Trust and Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council will next be showing Robin Hood on Friday 18th November, with Safety Last and Get Out and Get Under on Friday 23rd December. Admission to the shows is £10, with doors opening at 6.45pm for a 7pm start. It's well worth going along to. Good music, films, venue and bar - what more could you ask for.

Crazy Golf music video from The Ragamuffins

New song and video from The Ragamuffins - Taped Off The Radio.

A few months ago the band The Ragamuffins got in touch with me to pick my brains about Crazy Golf courses where they could film their new music video.

After listening to their requirements one of the suggestions I made to the "infectious indie-pop six piece" was The Masters Putting Green in Southport - a classic Arnold Palmer Crazy Golf course we visited and played on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour back in 2009. It makes for a perfect setting for the video.

KMGC Greatest Hits: Volume One CD

While 'enjoying' a spring clean and general de-cluttering earlier today I found a rare Minigolf artifact in the form of a KMGC Greatest Hits: Volume One CD!

I believe I picked up the CD by the Kent Minigolf Club - at a Kent Open competition while at Strokes Adventure Golf in Margate in 2008 or 2009.

The club has other Minigolf merch available in the form of tournament balls from 2011 and 2012. I've also got a KMGC Calendar from 2008 somewhere!
